It’s so crazy to me how relevant and tenacious Strixhaven continues to be. Ward was a clever mechanic. {I know a version of ward existed before this one, but generally speaking it was introduced in Strix} I will never forget that set. I still have yet to make a truly successful Magecraft deck. Also, this deck is VERY mean. So mean it might even be unfair, hahaha!

Ward is good, but cards getting ward that don't deserve them will be my bane of existence in competitive limited

@@loganchristiansen564 too true… remember that like 5 mana blue dragon rare with ward 4 or whatever? *Imyrith, Desert Doom! You’d essentially just win the game once it hit the battlefield. Or Koma? That card doesn’t have Ward but it may as well have, good lord that card still gives me shivers.

Building on the deck simplicity argument, I feel like decks that are more straightforward tend to be more successful even though they may not qualify as "easy." Having a direct plan definitely makes a deck easier than no plan and just praying for wins. Rip non-energy midrange decks.

Probably because scam is historically good when you're pressuring your opponent whereas this is more of a control/combo deck. Grief is still good but the recursion doesn't fit the rest of the plan very well as it's kinda only good paired with exactly Grief

I think scam is now almost bad in every deck, mainly beacuse of Boros, that has so many pieces that make 2 pcs from topdeck, so topdeck mode is not good right now.

Just adding on to the other answers here, grief in this deck functions much better as a means of clearing the way for your bigger plays(necro/ring/sheo) rather than being a beater. It rarely gets there on its own. I still like the 4 not deads for my own deck, but getting away from the malakir rebirths is definitely correct in this meta.

Scam also gets punished whwn you have necro in play since everything goes to exile
