@@Junby666 It's not a sad song. It's FEELSY, yeah. But it's not meant to be sad. It's a beautiful song about new beginnings and being free, hence why it plays at the end of Octo Expansion.. It's a reference to Agent 8 breaking out of both Octarian society and the Deepsea Metro and joining Inkopolis society, symbolized by the sun slowly rising during the credits.

Reminder: This song's name in Japanese is 'Friend from Faraway' literally spelled out in kana how you would say the words in english (ok, let's parse the title given at the beginning of the song. Says 'furendo.furomu.farawei' now say that really fast what does it sound like?). Them re-enacting how they first met, and with agent 8 being an octoling, suddenly it makes way more sense: octolings are friends from faraway, so too are off the hook. yeah if you couldn't tell the english name butchers all meaning the song could've had. The song's title was already in english! why they kept fly octo fly and not this makes zero sense tbh

That's so sad and sweet. I thought it was just a nice slow and sad song but that makes me realize that Pearl and Marina are singing to each other, and are mourning the state of current Octarian society. Marina probably misses her childhood home so much, as she did have happy times there based on the news when she says she always gets a dopey smile on her face when she is reminded of it. Pearl can only watch Marina be happy but not sure whether she could forever forget her home and her people. This song is a lot.

I personally think they changed the name because one part of the chorus can be heard as “Come into the light, I’ll shoot for the sky” to English speakers. Friend from faraway would seem weird, since Into the Light is the phrase an English speaker would hear more.

It's so weird, I've only started to really dive into Splatoon this year, didn't play much of Splatoon 2, only finished the DLC like 4 months ago... And still this song makes me tear up.
