Something Splatoon 2 and 3 both do graphically is they simulate global illumination from light reflecting off ink. Characters and objects sitting on top of ink will pick up a bit of colored under-lighting from the color of the ink on the ground. Test it in the Lobby using the moving targets! Put some ink on the ground and notice how the targets get a bit of colored light underneath them when they move onto the ink. I think they might even do it on walls as well!

DF has never mentioned this, but Splatoon 3 uses FSR 1.0 to render the surfaces of ink and through transparent windows at a lower resolution (possibly 50%) as a subtle way of reducing the amount of pixels rendered. This FSR scaling is also forced on for the overhead and objective camera in replay mode as DRS in those scenes may have been too distracting. The DRS implementation still uses bilinear scaling like previous games as FSR upscaling would lead to a noticeably blurrier image and its performance overhead may create a feedback loop and cause the game to lower resolution further.

Just think about it, the map is almost 4 times larger and significantly more complex than the previous game running on the exact same hardware, and they didn't compromise on the visual fidelity or performance targets at all. Not to mention Big Run takes place in this hub world now, so there's another version of this same map in the game that is optimized for 60fps Big Run gameplay. With these results, I wouldn't be too surprised if someone ported the Splatoon 2 map to Splatoon 3's engine and got it running at 60fps with the ability to ink the map as if inside a match. @@gnoclaude7945 it’s impressive because they had to work and figure out how to depict lighting in a realistic way without using an actual lighting system that calculates everything for you. State of the art technology doesn’t immediately invalidate older tech and hard work put into in making it look modern. Gamers are so ungrateful. 🙄

Hey Rockstar, this is how it's done, three new titles on one system. Not one old title spread over three generations! Noted was on WiiU but still the same 😁

I must say I like the water from Splatoon 1 more than in 3, but other than that it looks very good

Why no anti aliasing? Even the N64 used aa, in fact Nintendo touted that as one of the reasons why the system was so advanced along with mip mapping and z buffering.
@Charles-hy6gp Жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter, in fact PS2 didn't used either due for the VRAM

@user-ng1qe8ns5t I go back and a lot of the games are a jaggy mess. Even at the time that was obvious especially seeing their launch lineup vs the dreamcast. It didn't matter though, people bought into the PS2 hype and that's all that mattered in the end.

@@deepblue8143 Just to keep in mind, Halo 3 on Xbox 360 didn't have AA and was an exclusive

Amazing the visual presentation they were able to pull off with the Switch hardware, when you've got games like Metroid Dread that look like they are from the gamecube era.

In what way Metroid Dread seems a GC era game? Lol

Ok but why there is comparison between first Splatoon and Splatoon 3? I guess it means that I don't have to upgrade my S2 :)
@robertwahlstrom2 жыл бұрын
So open world / open sandbox where you can paint everything in 1080p60fps on a freaking handheld. Wonder where stuff went wrong with games like Elden Ring where it's barely able to run even on the PS5 and XBX. Feels like developer sorta forget to just keep stuff clean and simple nowadays and make like stuff overly complicated.

I can’t wait for a Switch 2 and see what it can do. I hope Nintendo future proof so it can keep up with next gen etc.

The switch was never about next gen graphics, and there's nothing wrong with that. I have both a new xbox and a PS5, but I play the switch more than both of them combined.

seeing people not use gyro always hurts a little
@leftovernoise2 жыл бұрын
Seriously. Splatoon is what convinced me that gyro is the best way to play with a controller. I no longer will play an fps with a controller unless it has gyro aim. It's so much faster, smoother and more accurate than sticks. Really shows you how poor of a tool dual sticks are when it comes to aiming. I think a lot of people got scared off any form of motion controls due to the horrid era of forcing waggle controls into everything.
@apostolos87342 жыл бұрын
Honestly I tried gyro and can’t stand it. I know a lot of people do really good with it but that shit is just not for me.
@leftovernoise2 жыл бұрын
@@apostolos8734 that's fair. Most people take some time to adjust. The biggest mistake I see new people make, is trying to aim with their whole arm, waving it around to aim. You use the stick for all the big movements and then very fine adjustments with the gyro. Someone watching you play shouldn't even be able to tell you're using it because to movements are so small. I just rest my. Hands and controller on my lap as an anchor point
