I think you overestimate the impact of the outcome of the festival. In Splatoon 2 the only thing that changed was who got kidnapped, no major thing. In Splatoon 3 just the first act of the story mode, the desert with the upside down tower and the mad max feeling, is chaos, but afterwards, once you are underground, the theme of chaos is completelty gone. Yes, S4 will be themed around the past, but I don't think you will see the whole story be set in the past. EDIT: Plus, Splatoon 4 is probably rn deep in development. I don't think they wait for a festival until they choose a setting for the whole game. Splatoon 4 will most-likely release in 2-3 years.

i can name few problems about the story mode of the games. S1. The areas around hero mode isn't as base like or place fitting for octarian headquarters/military. thus it looks like a random practice areas to reach to the small UFO which made us go the sky/space above that we could've went to the octarian headquarters in space! which no one else could've but the octolings . the valley isn't as big and expansive to adventure. hence why we don't see any octarians but on underground. S2. The areas we go are short but the final area is a massive sea of poisonous muck like ink. would've made more sense to commit a massive giant rocket to blast at inkopolis to devour the city. but no. it's just callie making a lot of place her vibes. not a threatening place. S3. What started on desert till we end up on alterna which leaves many questions. the squidbeak splatoon can't do anything important but rely on new agent 3 as they're still the NPC commentators with no point of lending you a hand till the end. which makes no sense and make them lousy and lazy fan service choice. plus the areas around may be explorative but it feels like lack of human like treasures of the past on alterna. like where's the fast food. where's the shops. where's the other gadgets and laboratories and even any sign of human messages/archives and such about the mistakes of humankind. all of these hero modes of squidbeak splatoon are just focus on level tasks and go forth with no lores. if splatoon 4 will be about past time travel. either marine energy or time machine made by octarians or via PC CD Which has saved data of humankind and somehow uses the power of music magic from marina or someone else to transform the entire splatoon world time travel back in the past. where technology/TVs/Phones/Turf war lobbies don't exist. but you're in war like how japan had wars in old history like edo era. the squid sisters will be shown young regardless shown by the kimono or look alike idols of the past ancestors. hence why when there's war. they fight to claim their turf. showing severed friendships and no sign of peace until the melodies of the inkantation. who knows what gonna happen in past but i sure wish the boys will get some love and attention to become special characters than pointless NPCs.

The idea that the past will be taken to the absolute extreme is also pretty silly. People thought chaos winning meant the next game would be somewhat post-post apocalyptic, Inkopolis being destroyed or something. All it did was influence the lobby and environment design for the Splatlands, and the idols. We still ended out getting a DLC about Order, which actually did take that idea to the extreme - perhaps if Order won, we would have gotten a Chaos DLC. What this probably means is that Splatoon 3 will be set in the near future (present), include a story line wrapping up events and loose ends from the past, idols inspired by the past (either by past games, franchises, media or history), maybe a DLC about protecting the future haha.

I said this before in a Reddit post but I theorize that if Splatoon 3 had the city of chaos, maybe Splatoon 4’s base will be a tourist attraction, commemmorating the Great Turf War. I’m probably wrong because I cannot picture an Orderly-based idol group.

I have a theory that the time where we start is present but there is a Time Machine that be used to go to the past and in the dlc into the future and for the 2 dlc it just place in the normal time and as a reward you can switch between all three time and live in past and Futur version of the plaza you are

Hear me out, Splatoon 4 takes place in a historic city that was used during the Great Turf War. And maybe the story mode will be about either discovering more stuff about Splatoon's history. Or Maybe we'll play in Cuttlefish's flashbacks about the Great Turf War in chapters. Chapter 1: All Peaceful with Octarians (pre Great Turf war) Chapter 2: The seas rose again, tension increasing against the Octarians Chapter 3: Great Turf War Chapter 4: The climax and finale of the Great Turf war

I had a similar idea for the single player campaign! Except my idea was that the chapters would unlock every week for about 2 years so that people wouldn’t just play the story mode once and forget about it. It would require the players to actively play the game in order to see what comes next in the story and I feel like that’d be a refreshing way to revamp single player and attract more players into investing their time into the lore of Splatoon.

Making Splatoon 4 a prequel would definitely be interesting and unique to see, but I would much rather have a Splatoon 4 that is still a sequel but explores a lot further with its past in-universe without having time travel involved (since I don't think it's a realistic thing to happen in the context of a modern civilization inhabited by hyper-evolved cephalopods and other sea creatures who acts as the spiritual successors of the entire human race after humanity and all mammal life went extinct for several millenia)

it's likely that marina or any smart sea animal would likely to make a time traveling machine with either marine energy or music energy. and there wasn't any sign of lightnings happening on splatoon series except for zapfishes. any kind of energy is possible just like how inklings and octolings can grow sizes and such depending on specials or other powers.

Making splatoon 4 be a prequel kinda makes the most sense. Because that's the past. We could time travel to it or it'll just automatically be set there. Unless of course something related to past comes to the game. Like a power outage. Since parts of the past weren't technologically advanced.

Yeah, but I would much rather have Splatoon 4 taking place after Splatoon 4 and the single-player campaign revolve around exploring the great turf war crates in the present days (also since those craters are flooded as seen on the map of the Inkadia region, I would imagine those locations to be overtaken by the Salmonids, making them the antagonists of Splatoon 4's hero mode, having the three King Salmonids being the bosses and then all together as the Triumvirate as the final boss maybe)

Please I really do not want splatoon to introduce the concept of time traveling. It is literally impossible, super complicated, and will screw up the entire splatoon space/time continuum. Besides, time traveling is way too damn confusing.

Where after all our meddling in their works pissed them off so much that they are growing stronger and stronger to the point where now they are the ones who take the Great Zapfish to power some massive unstable weapon that could destroy the planet like what happened with Mr. Grizz. But surrounded on the surface near the sea

although salmonids made deals with octarians via machinery and such years ago. we still don't know who's their master or leader of the salmonid tribe. like who made them? radiation? food? marine life energy?

Chances are the Salmonids arn’t all that powerful as they are consistently defeated by Inklings in the present day. Grizzco’s main focus now is to very systematically and efficiently reduce their power and numbers (at least, of their warriors attempting salmon runs). With things like the over 500 million golden eggs thing, I reckon this would mean in the next game they could possibly be weakened (octarians might not even bother trading with them now) and replaced by something else. Salmonids don’t seem to be very good with tech, hence why they trade with and reuse the tech of octarians.

I’m just gonna say this: we won’t get a Great Turf War game. The Squidbeak Splatoon and Octarian Menace arc is over, as said in the Direct, and it’s gonna be a sequel likely with people being into retro stuff. I’m honestly hoping it’s gonna be a soft reboot and set in a new region that’s far away from Inkadia and the Splatlands. I want to see them make new lore for that region.

Pokemon does that on new regions. Mario does that on new kingdoms. Sonic does that on new islands and places they go. Kirby does that around dreamland and other dimensions. Splatoon is stuck on inkadia for years that it hardly feels anything interesting worth for adventure and exploration. And don't get me thinking about the octo valley and canyons. It's not even that big. If anything we need a huge world of adventure and such just like Galar and paldea. Enemies no longer hiding on teapots. And inklings and octolings gets wounded or hurt for real shown in cutscenes. Even get splatted By new entities. Make rabbits appear on splatoon. Hope its possible because there's so much to find out instead of NPCs that don't interact much like the boring jellyfishes

But saying theoretically that the game takes place before the events of the Great Turf War (Which I’m hoping for 🙏🙏) It won’t be tied to Squidbeak Splatoon because they didn’t exist before the Great Turf War. Ideally if this were to happen we could possibly see an entirely new storyline not involving any sort of inherent threat, instead it could focus on fleshing out bits of lore teased in previous Sunken Scrolls, which imo sounds really neat.

I feel like the kind of past that Nintendo will focus on in splatoon 4 is going to be the good old days of good stages and music from splatoon one. I feel like they would focus on a nostalgic factor, while still moving forward in time. Time will tell either way

I really hope Splatoon 4 will be like Splatoon 2, and 3. I really hope Splatoon 4 brings back the Squid Sisters for the Story Mode, I hope that Lil Judd will be the bad guy for the 4th Splatoon game. I hope we don't go back in time I'd like to only learn from te past by the sunken scrolls, I really want four members of a new Splatcast group and the return of the Splatfests with 4 teams to choose from and with the quad-color turf war with four teams fighting out, and this time with only the Splatzones for 3 minutes and the which team who has gotten control of the zone with the most points will win.

I’ve always believed ever since Team Past won is that the game will have a Legends Arceus/Avatar TLA/Korra vibes in termes of theme like the hub world. Hopefully Past will bring back Ninjas and Samurai’s. Even Octavio’s helmets are Samurai based and Marie worn a Kimono in Splatoon 2. Come to think of it. Splatoon 4 might lean more towards ancient Japan but I still want more Ninja vibes in the mix like more outfits, theming, and motif.

I'll give you a better past idea for Splatoon 4. Rather than going back in time or having it back in time, the new enemy or the key to victory will be from the ancient Inkling/Octoling past. We should deal with mummies, undead, ancient creatures, explore tombs and temples, hunt and seek treasures with Deep Cut, and find a mummy Inkling who will help us restore Craig back to normal. And lets say an enemy comes from the future well we could use ancient magics and powers to defeat them. Learn more about the Calamari Inkantation

People overestimate the impact the great turf war had over splatoon. It was a very small war that only affected some parts of inkadia, nothing else. Splatoon has been expandin its world to shrink it by so much wouldn't be the right choice in my opinion

At first we thought we're stuck on inkadia but later on final level of splatoon 3 there's more countries and areas we never get to be there because we remain stuck on inkopolis after the story mode. My prediction is that if past were to win we would get a spinoff or remake If present were to win the main timeline would just continue, and if future were to win we'd get a soft reboot focusing on something unrelated to the main trilogy but still in the same timeline

I honestly, still do not belive Nintendo will do the Great Turf War. That would switch the tone of the game to much, becouse lets not forget that lore wise The Great Turf War was a literal war, so unles they redcon it in to something fun , I cant see it happening. So what I think will happen could be the following: Team Past, The Squid Sisters were the idols representing Team Past, so I think there are 2 options. 1st, we could get a story of how The Squid Sisters became Inkopolis idols, but that does not mean we wont get anny new idols, we could see Inkopolis prewious idol group mentoring the Callie and Marie. The 2nd option is that we simply will get a Splatoon 1 port or some sort of HD Remake for the Switch/Swith2. And following the DLC pattern, this works for both options. The Present DLC will thake place during the present time, maybe the mission on which were Agent 3 an Cap'n Cuttlefish before Octo Expansion. also we still do not know annythimg about the shop owner for witch Harmony is the current replacement and ofcourse Li'l Judd and his headset. Sa for Team Future that would be the second DLC, which could foreshadow and lead in to Splatoon's 4 story.

Maybe we will get two Splatoon games in the next console generation much like how we got 2 and 3 both on Switch. We could get a prequel game based on the Great Turf War first and then a fully-fledged Splatoon 4 afterwards. Alternatively we could get Splatoon 4 based after the current timeline with separate story DLC called “Splatoon B4” 😂
