I think it is a shame to have to destroy so much just to have something so pretty...I mean beautiful gems are not a must...Just part of the human need for more money and for people of means to show that they have more money ..
@nichmon3221

I guess that's why money is the root of all evil. We humans tend to destroy everything on this earth, for greed.

1st John 2:16 - For everything in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-comes not from the Father but from the world 1 Timothy 6:10 KJV For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Only royalty and nobility can afford to wear these jewels.Not just about the price but safety as well. Kings and nobles can afford to have a huge entourage with them. A normal person wearing these in broad daylight would be in trouble from robbers.

Diamonds are not rare. 140 million carats of diamonds are mined each year. They are only expensive because De Beers totally controls the market and holds back diamonds from sale to keep the price high.

They are rare coz you can dig all your life looking for diamonds into your backyard and you will not find any. If diamonds are not rare then so are other gems using your logic coz it can take hundreds of tons of earth to be crushed and processed to recover only a single carat of rough diamond. While for every ton of earth in Mozambique ruby mines you can recover 7 carats of rubies. Diamonds appear to be readily available coz it is the most in demand gem and so more people dig for them than rubies, sapphires or emeralds and also diamond mining are highly mechanized and the recovery of diamonds are faster unlike digging for them using a shovel like in most other softer gems. Natural color diamonds for example are supra rare coz you will have more chances of seeing God's face than seeing a natural color orange, violet, purple, red, blue and green diamonds!

Ahem. Out of the diamonds mined only 20 percentage is fit for jewellery use. Most of it is for industrial use

I like shiny gemstones too......I just don't care for the financial weight of them. I stick to costume jewelry. My favorite piece is a ladybug pin that is made of silver, black enamel, and garnett.

@@thestud1881No. Their company is long gone. No ones buying expensive freshwater cultured pearls from Tenessee anymore coz China is now the leading producer at a much cheaper price.
