Damn, this game was amazing on Xbox. When a developer manages to make a game that looks better than anything else on that console, it always feels like magic. All console generations had a few of those games, but you don't really see it this gen. OG Xbox had quite a few, and Doom 3 running on a console was mindboggling. Gaming on Xbox over PS2 felt like the first "1.5 gen" upgrade to me.

ANARCHY 91 while the PS3 HD trilogy runs in a higher resolution, it’s missing some of the lighting and shadows from the Xbox original, which in my opinion, makes it look worse. I have all versions as in a Splinter Cell nut and was disappointed when I popped in the PS3 trilogy. It definitely looks more clear but graphical effects are missing which must come down to the emulation. Original Xbox and PC versions are still the way to go for the original trilogy of games.

@@NGameReviews actually someone managed to fix the graphical issues recently, from what i heard, what caused them is the fact that the xbox had something shader-related unique to its graphical architecture, which the geforce 3 (the xbox gpu) 4, and MX used, its why their lightning looks so good, because they made use of that feature unique to those geforces, which for some reason nvidia removed on the gpus after those

The thing I love about the PS2 and Xbox is how much different they looked from each other graphically. I find it really neat that you can tell what was an Xbox title and what was a PS2 title just based on the graphics, kinda like how you could tell the difference between PS1 and N64 due to the smoothed textures on N64 and the pixelated ones on PS1, which didn't make the games look worse in any way but it just gave the consoles that style of graphics which I always find amazing. I don't think we will see graphics like that again anytime soon though and everything will probably look samey from here on out with little differences but its nice to look back on how everything looked.

@AnEn I think it's baffling how for 3 generations in a row the by far strongest system lost: N64, OG Xbox, PS3. The Saturn is weaker than the PSOne of course and you could argue that the Wii wasn't properly part of the generation, but still. All the weakest consoles, PSOne, PS2, Wii, won their generations by a landslide. And I loved the PS2 to death but if it weren't for the exclusives it wouldn't have stood a chance against the OG Xbox. I am seeing that now. And in fact the OG Xbox had killer exclusives as well -- Halo, Morrowind, etc.

nowonmetube I had both consoles at the time of their generation, the XBOX was better than the PS2 in almost every way. The XBOX had native Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, a better controller, superior graphics on most cross platform games especially towards the end of consoles era, also the XBOX had a Hard Drive built in, the PS2 didn't. if you can't see that the XBOX was the better hardware even more than a decade later then i'm sorry but you have issues buddy. The PS2 was still a good console but only for its exclusives, but even then the XBOX had Halo which was amazing on System Link with 16 players, 4 people per console...

Unless you were on PC, visuals didn't get any better than the Xbox. The lighting effects in Chaos Theory and the port of Doom 3 were insanely impressive at the time. Plus Xbox was way more suited to run polished FPS games than PS2, back before every other game was a FPS.

I fondly remember the PS2 version, playing it back in 2005, I was 14 years old. No internet, hardly into the culture beyond just playing games. I remember having a blast, this was, one of the best games I've ever played. and still is However, I was unaware that I was playing the single wost version of the game. I played on Xbox 360 thinking it was just as I remember and noticed it looked better but I thought it was something to do with hardware. Also noticed some areas looking rather different, and had me thinking I mustve remember these areas wrong. Then the game overall was generally harder than before despite knowing what to do and when like i get up to take a piss. Come to find out, Xbox version was rather different and thisw as the case for most games. I didn't care because that stuff was beyond me. And I got to play th better version anyway

It is a measurable fact just by individual games review scores.. PS2 had better AAA Games and better reviewed exclusives overall.. It was hands down "THE CONSOLE" to own of that generation. Xbox had its jewels and so it did the GC but PS2? it was a beast… I still remember regretting having purchased the GC instead of the PS2, Its not like I was not having fun on the GC side but it was overall with the exclusives only (TLOZ, METROID, MARIO KART, Etc) but in comparison to PS2??? I mean... GTA Alone was a huge driving force to get a PS2.

I own a Ps2 and I purchased all 3 Original Ps2 games... It looks obvious that the Xbox is better. And it also includes MORE game... like in the first mission.. in the Ps2 version you can’t slide down the rope to reach the lighthouse. In the second mission.. there is no corridor to the left on the Ps2.... I love how Chaos Theory feels overall. The PS2 just shows its limited hardware here.

Only the Gamecube could compete with the OXB for raw power in that generation. The PS2 was a noticeable step up from the Dreamcast, and the Xbox could do things with lighting and shaders that were beyond the reach of Sony's machine. Having said that, the PS2 was strong in certain areas. For example, if you compare Silent HIll 2 on each console the Playstation version has much richer fog effects that really contribute to the atmosphere of the game.

Funny thing is not really on the GPU side. PS3 GPU was weak, SPE made up for it, PS3 never had a unified ram like 360, its ram memory was smaller than 360. So 360 multiplat games ran better and look better.

Yo disfruté de la versión PC que compré solo por los gráficos, no me gustaba el género de sigilo. Pero acabé enganchado, a parte de ser uno de los mejores juegos que demostraban de lo que era capaz Pixel Shader 3.0 y Direct X 9.0c. XBOX era un pc de gama media en la época y Cielos santo!!! Era otro juego el de PS2. La resolución de pantalla es inferior en PS2, también la resolución de texturas e iluminación. No existen shaders en PS2 ni luz proyectada lo que unido a eliminación de detalle del entorno como cuevas menos detalladas, paredes, ventanas, o elementos eliminados, parece que es otro juego. El problema era que por cada 100 PS2 en el mundo había 15 XBOX. La gente estaba acostumbrada a "lo malo". También tuve XBOX y aunque no tuve este juego, recuerdo el Forza que era una brutalidad. Y el Fable también era precioso. Recuerdo que un Dead or Alive 2 en Xbox lo podías poner a 720p en 4:3, con bandas negras a izquierda y derecha pero se veía que parecía una PS3.
