As much as I thought Double Agent was a step in the wrong direction with the franchise, I always liked how the music perfectly captured the emotional tension and dissonance of the game. Like this menu theme doesn’t mess around at all. You know you’ll be in for a heavy story when you hear this song. Of course, if you were there in 2005-2006 and you heard about an upcoming Splinter Cell game, you’d probably expect another banger like Chaos Theory until you realized that they were definitely changing it up as evinced by the new title. That’s what happened to me and probably a lot of other Splinter Cell fans at the time.

Sam Fisher -- my goodness his life has just been stessful. He went to military boarding school when his parents died, his wife divorced him in less than five years, his own daughter was almost killed and she thought he was dead, his own agency hunted him down wrongfully. I know I'm late, but Conviction serves the story really well. Sam was in total grief, and the second he heard his daughter's name, he beat the shit out of that person and tried to find the truth. That's why in Double Agent and Conviction, it is stated that Sam was "Beating people out for answers".
@LolrusGaming5 жыл бұрын
@@irusan_san Conviction is really fun. I loved it at release but hated that it wasn't like the older Splinter Cells. When Blacklist came out I thought it was a massive improvement but when I went back to Conviction, I actually preferred its story and campaign. Blacklists gameplay is a huge improvement, but Convictions emotional story and just general writing felt SO much better. Still wish we had OG Splinter Cell game style though. The last classic feeling Splinter Cell was the PS2/Xbox version of Double Agent imo. The 360 version was also good but didn't have the same awesome "Oh wow another Chaos Theory!" Feeling.

While I do rank Double Agent as the weakest, least polished, and unenjoyable title in the series, there's no denying that I also think that it has the most remarkable presence in the series with its' storyline, aesthetics, atmosphere, and incredible music. There's just something so beautiful about Sam Fisher's lowest point in his life and the way in-game music like this accompanies the player as he progresses through the engaging story. I never thought I'd ever use a term like "depressing spy music" until now. These things are the saving grace for this game and what makes it so memorable after you finish it, despite all of its' extremely obvious flaws.

Splinter Cell Double Agent for the PS2 was likely the last, authentic Splinter Cell game, with the continued use of the Shadow Meter and the usual emphasis on stealth (till the last boss fight). Double Agent on the Xbox 360 felt exactly like Conviction felt: A completely different Splinter Cell game, since missions were usually during the day, the Shadow Meter was replaced with a simplified, color device on your back, and health regenerated. Thus, starting a new brand of Splinter Cell games.

The PS2 Version being more akin to Chaos Theory is probably one of the reasons why I liked it more than the 360 Version. That version, strangely enough, felt like the "dumbed down" version of the PS2 Version to me. Sure, it looked much better and had a better "Trust" bar than the PS2 one, but I felt the extra HUD stuff in PS2's Double Agent (Stealh Meter, Sound Meter) made being stealthy less of a hassle. I would know if I was in an area that I wouldn't be seen. In the 360 one, because of the stripped-down hud, I would have moments where I was in a seemingly camoflauged or dark area but I could still be seen or when I was in a fairly exposed area but the game was giving me a "Green" Light. Or maybe that's just me.
