Splinter Cell veteran, fan and nerd here. The most important part of Splinter Cell that needs to come back is pacing. Having to wait around in corner or above ledge for longer time, listening to sexy soundtrack, absorbing environment and waiting for your moment to pass by unnoticed, that's what's Splinter Cell is about. Chaos Theory is praised because it's slow but you feel agile nonetheless. You always do something new and pace can be various and it adds to the tension. SC1 is my second favorite in series, and listening that choir ambient soundtrack in those Georgian locations is an experience. They need to find balance, slow creeping through shadows or swifter stealth when you rush to defuse bomb or save someone being still stealthy. And last thing is interactive enviroment. Having things to hack, break or find new way to sneak through. That's why interrogations were fun. You always could learn something new in each playthrough by guards or by yourself. My hopes are surprisingly high for now. And adding RTX to SC might be best use of that lighting system that game industry saw. I'm waiting Ubi, waiting patiently like Fisher in the shadows. Cheers

EddieTheBunny. Wow. I feel old. I was 17 when Blacklist came out, and I remember anytime you voiced your opinion on the game when it was coming out, on new Blacklist videos that would get uploaded, hundreds of users would attack you and call you names in the comments. 2013 is when the Splinter Cell community got toxic and it’s nothing but Ubisoft’s fault. I disagree with all the things you’ve said about Conviction (since that wasn’t really a Splinter Cell game as more a spin off game of Sam Fisher) but I knew you were a true Splinter Cell fan after all the great things you’ve said about the first 3 games. Blacklist had the perfect chance to go back to Chaos Theory roots, but instead it was another 3rd person shooter disguised as a Splinter Cell game. I feel like Ubisoft and Splinter Cell died with Conviction. And the fact that it’s Ubisoft Toronto working on the remake is very concerning. This remake is the last chance for Ubisoft to redeem the franchise. Ironside has to come back, and if they do the performance capture stuff with a new actor, he has to look like Sam and sound like Sam, or I’m out. Splinter Cell fans deserve better, and I wouldn’t mind by this point if the rights were sold to another company. Ubisoft just isn’t the 2002-2010 days anymore, and I don’t think they know how to bring the true Ubisoft back. Great video, btw. Hope you make more since you have one of the greatest perspectives of this franchise. Sorry that people were so mean to you in the comments back in the day. People didn’t want to listen but you were right. You predicted exactly what was gonna happen with the franchise 10 years ago.

One thing I would add is creating the most immersive realism. Have the best particle effects and gore. If you shoot a light, there should be glass on the ground that creates sound when stepped on, and there should be a shell casing on the floor, and a bullet hole in the light. The realism was high 20 years ago. Today, it should be the new peak.

I miss the laser microphone. I felt like an actual spy... spying on people... in a spy game. Amazing, right? Apparently Ubisoft didn't get the memo and assumed Sam was some kind of high tech AssCreed character, or Batman with guns. Spying on and listening to NPCs slows down the game, but it should be rewarding as to give players intel about the level. I didn't get that at all in Blacklist.

I have a feeling we won't be getting a story that is as grounded/near-future oriented as the first 3 games, just simply based upon the type of devs/writers working within these AAA companies like Ubisoft. That being said, i still think they should be talented/more than capable enough to tell a way better story than Conviction/Blacklist (i stand by the fact that Double Agent was a good story, with a great premise, but just that a few parts of it, though those few parts were pretty important, were quite flawed/poorly executed)

Almost everyone is afraid of two things: rewrites for modern audience and mechanics of Conviction/Blacklist. I have the same concerns. Don’t get me wrong, both games are good overall but they have nothing to do with the franchise that was established from the first to the fourth game. i agree with everything that was said in the video. on the question of games that have a niche audience i find it very difficult on the part of ubisoft to listen to this because it is in a phase (since 2013) competing for the games market including everything that pleases "everyone". And let's face it, if this game does come out, it's more likely to be bad than good, given all the discrepancies the company makes with its games.
@JohnDoe-g7i9 ай бұрын
For me, realism and immersion are super important as well. Even if it's not fully realistic, the closer and more authentic, the better. Lockpicking in the first game that I thought, "yeah , this is believable. Someone doing that type of work would likely have that skill/equipment." Also little bonus options that reward curiousity and exploration. Oh cool, you can switch off the generator, or break it so it can't be turned back on, each option having benefits and drawbacks. It'd be cool to find an electrical room and turn off certain breakers or something like that. It could go super in depth with it where it obviously could be too much to fit into a game without neglecting other aspects, but just saying those kind of touches really help with immersion. They should do some research with actual red teams and integrate some of that kind of stuff.

but thats like a total lie? Ive just played Blacklist a few weeks ago and its more like that most missions can be played as a ghost and only a few of the missions make it difficult with forced action sequences. I felt like there were only 1 or 2 instances that made it impossible. But I think the game does account for that so on the scoreboard you can still make it a ghost run even though you were seen in the forced sequences. Also the first two Splinter Cell games had those forced action moments where you were forced to to actively shoot people as well.
@edv7n8 ай бұрын
@@mcslothalot Not saying that the other games were flawless with ghosting, Chaos Theory had several forced sequences, like in bathhouse and the final mission. But I have played through Blacklist several times, and every single main story mission has at least one thing that breaks a rule of ghosting. To be clear, ghosting is completing a level without touching a guard, or leaving a trace of you being there (like shooting out a light). It's not being simply non lethal, it's completing your objective without there ever being evidence that you were there. -Blacklist Zero The game forces you to take out some guards at a checkpoint. -Safehouse All of the guards interrogating Kobin need to be neutralized before proceeding. -Insurgent Stronghold Interrogating the former MI6 agent. -American Consumption Interrogating the drone operator in the tunnel. -Private Estate Breaking into the secret room as well as having to neutralize the oncoming enemies afterwards. -Abandoned Mill Killing a guard not even 10 seconds into the mission, along with the part after Briggs rescues Sam. -Special Missions HQ Blackmailing the Iranian guy and then having that blackout in the beginning of the mission, and the use of the drone in the end. -Transit Yards All of the Briggs FPS gameplay, along with the final chase in the subway. -Detention Facility Sam taking out a guard whilst interrogating the guy with connections to Sadiq. -Airstrip Just one big firefight where all enemies have to be neutralised. -LNG Terminal Final chase. -Site F Briggs giving himself up near the end of the mission.

I hated the panther playstyle idea. Clearing a whole damn room isn't stealthy at all. That's painting the town red. I don't give a damn that nobody saw me; the end result and the means/tools to do so are pretty much the same: everything is still lethal and I'm only half-assing the idea of stealth because at least no alarms were raised. But then realistically, if everyone went dead and they had radios, reinforcements absolutely would be summoned in spite of no alarms because no one is answering the comms.

Stealth games are about being patient and methodical, not hopping around like a rabbit on acid, in any first person shitter. Recently, i was watching another video about Splinter Cell and he was saying something like : "...we hired testers for the game and as soon as they sat down and got hold of the controls, they were looking for something to shoot...". So much for brains, maybe they should hire middle aged testers instead of texting kids.

Agree with every single take man. You completely understand SplinterCell. I'm a huge fan but you're a huger fan (lol) and my hat is off to you. Having said that. I have 0 faith Ubisoft will be able to deliver a good remake. The only way it could be good is if all they do is completely overhaul the graphics but leave the gameplay and systems entirely alone. Like what happened with Halo Anniversary. Game looked incredible but it was really the same old game. Do i wish for the remake to be a complete remake? Absolutely! However, we know the devs who were passionate about splinter cell with the supervision of the Clancy man himself.. those devs are gone. If Tom Clancy could see what Ubisoft has done with his brand with Rainbow 6, Ghost Recon, and SplinterCell (talking about Conviction and Blacklist) well.. he'd be pretty upset. Sam Fisher deserved better. I never want to be a negative nancy but i fully expect the game to look good graphics wise and possibly even play smooth but play well? Meh. It will likely have optional microtransactions (which still aren't ok imo for a games like splinter cell or AssCreed or FarCry). It will have janky contectual controls instead of grounded controls (ie waiting for button prompts to appear on the screen in order to do specific actions). And light and sound meters as well as variable movement speed controls... will likely not be implemented. I'm positive the detection system in Blacklist will be reused and that's a shame. All that being said i hope I'm very wrong. Great video man. Apologies for the essay of a comment, but I'm passionate about these things and seeing the poor state of all these triple A companies is frustrating to witness. They are so very out of touch. P.S. Assassins Creed Mirage was super mid and Ubisoft said it was a return to form. Just felt like they missed the mark in a lot of ways. The small details and freedom are what made the old Ubi games so good.
@EddieTheBunny10 ай бұрын
Actually I enjoy long comments. I appreciate them a lot. I understand why you're saying you have no faith because I'm kind of on the same level but that one small ounce of hope I have is the reason I made this video. It's kind of an "I told you so" video in advance for when or if the remake actually does poorly. I already called out Blacklist years ago before it released which then caused the community developer to cease all communication with me about the game(To be fair I wasn't the most polite). Then the game released and turns out I was absolutely correct on how the game would turn out. This is more of a "polite" way of saying the remake has to be this way and if it isn't we're gonna see Blacklist all over again just as I said Blacklist was going to be Conviction all over again a decade ago. I would just like to see at least one more Splinter Cell game that is good.

SLOW gameplay Separate Gunfight and infiltration like Old games HUD elements from Double Agent V2/Chaos theory DARK GAME Sames voices No random cutscence when we can just listen to a discussion without it Ennemis have to run up to the alarm to activate it GOOD IA Even if you're 30m away from the Ennemi if he's looking at you when you're visible he will see you (infinite range) Good level design that allow you to complete your objectives in the order you want. etc

I disagree with one thing: if you think Splinter Cell will have a future like From Software's games by being only slow and methodical and a fragile protagonist..., basically pleasing only the Purists, the Remake will sell because it's Sam Fisher's comeback, but what comes next will make disappointing sales and the license will fall dormant again for another decade. The game must also offer the possibility of stealth kills and aggressive fun, to play the way you want. Zero kill, hit, everything ok, but it has to appeal to the general public too. As some on youtube are saying, the infiltration genre isn't as popular as it used to be. Some even say that the stealth genre is dead. So it has to evolve, and other franchises have understood this. Hitman is evolving, Metal Gear is evolving, Splinter Cell needs to evolve too, while keeping what it does best. The ability to be aggressive or a stealth hunter is also a good thing. For example, MGSV wouldn't have this great gameplay if they'd kept the same approach as the 1st game on every game. Splinter Cell fans want to stay as it was 20 years ago and pretend to forget that gamers' expectations today are different and that technologies have evolved.

Well said, purists always think they have it all figured out but don't have the actual data insight of the devs. Devs knew that 90% of the players of even classic SC games didn't so by ghosting the games, in fact not even 5% of the players would be considered in that. Even Soulslikes figured out that they need to evolve, newer games in genre offer a lot more options on how to tackle the game and have become a lot faster than they used to be.

If you want to play the way you want go play something else I dont hear anyone saying darksouls need to be less difficult. That is the appeal of the game Just like that stealth is the appeal here If you want to gun down enemies without consequences go play shooters 3rd person or 1st person

Ubisoft wants instant profit and splinter cell being niche isn't helping, also since people are "hypocritical" and won't like stealth games' frustrations as much as they love dark souls' ones

I have no problem with the story being re-written for a modern time. Splinter Cell’s 1 story is very forgettable with no interesting cast of characters except for Lambert, and he just bosses you around. Grimm’s presence is pretty small, and Wilke’s death comes and goes pretty quick. Rewriting these things, as well as creating a stronger story makes for a better game and a stronger likelihood for sequels. I hope the original trilogy gets the Resident Evil treatment.

It's the "Modern Audience" part that the issue is.

@@EddieTheBunny whatever it is, I know it’ll be better because the tech we have now tells a way better story. I just finished the splinter cell 1 story and those cutscenes were… a product of their time. Random news stations cutting up static, some OG Xbox guy with no fingers shaking his hand at the screen yelling about America, reading a summary and clicking fire to continue… new game will definitely need to be better at the storytelling to invest players

@@TheAwesomejuan I definitely agree with you. Splinter Cell 1 was great for its time, and the stealth gameplay holds up well. The graphics, visuals attracted players back then. In the reviews, it did very well. however going back to replay this, the story presentation is pretty jarring. I think people are overreacting with the modern audience stuff. I mean, ubisoft does have a bad track record but i dont think they'll make the story woke, sam being gay, trans characters etc. The story needs to be worked on alot, i mean i did like sc1's plot, but it did need more depth. They need to change a lot to it, and yeah Grims presence was minimal. wilkes death felt rushed. this game basically needs a RE4 style remake. i agree with you. tbh i replayed it again last week along with PT and CT and they were all so fun to play- but SC1 needs so much work on the storyfront to attract more players and get them invested. I believe they'll do it justice
