Awesome video! My own version of the Split 1x2x3 was probably the second puzzle I ever designed-- there's a photo somewhere from when I was 13, showing a blue plastic version of it off to astronaut Leland Melvin in a hotel lobby, which is its own interesting story. I was so miffed at having been beaten out as its first inventor that I took the concept a step further with the Split 1x3x4 a little later. Grafalex also made an improved remix of that one, which I re-remixed into my current favorite version-- also the last thing I ever posted on Thingiverse!

Cool story! I'm planning to print the Split 1x3x4 sometime in the future as well.

this is great, also appreciate the remix, thanks for giving credit for the original as well. enjoy 3d printed puzzles so can't wait to see what you come up with in the future.

You could make a really compact square 1 in the same shape. That would be a cool puzzle and the functionality of the mechanism would be quite similar.

Yep! That's actually been done before but I might try making my own version at some point.

Is it an equivalence to a (center-)bandaged 2x2x3 tower?

Indeed, it is a shape modification of a 2x2x3 with a bandaged central layer.
