Incredible band. They were more than just musicians. I think no-one can write ballads with a hint of menace like the Finn Brothers and Phil Judd. I love all the incarnations of the line-up through the years. All their songs were well above the tunes at that time, even those that reached to heights of the charts. Storytellers extraordinaire.

Missing person....Neil is just so tight and effortless. Pitch perfect vocals

Never knew they went to the Netherlands...missed it. 3 months later I moved to New Zealand and saw them live in Napier. Watching this in 2024...😀

Haha, I love Malcolm sticking the drumstick in his mouth and adjusting the hi-hat at 5:10. 🙂 And I never realized until now what a nice drum part he has on "I Hope I Never".

It was raining no bands played at Wollongong except Split Endz they were my favorite live band.

There are not many bands that you can have the feelings of zany, manic, glee, triumphant and sorrow. Lots of bands specialize in the one or two. Split Enz mastered them all. I have searched high and low for bands with this variety. Sadly there is hardly any competition. The closest was maybe Squeeze. There a lots of good bands including the Who which are masters of the instruments and write good songs but are still limited by their style to 2 to 3 feelings in their songs. Queen was another close one.

Thank you. So strange to see references so Split Enz that I loved, Pink Pop that wen to 18 years later as a resident and someone mentioning below them playing in Wollongong, a town I grew up and to also listen to Neil 22 years later in the same town in Holland. They really did touch a lot of people.

Why on earth have they never recorded the odd new song? Like one every 10 years or something, lol. It would be so fun and nostalgic... We know they definitely have it in them.

Why why have I never ... (pun intended) up to this point, notice that you dropped a Samba partido alto rhyme track in behind one of my all time favs from the boys. SO so refreshing.

I was there. 18 years old, first festival. Was with an amateur band that played there. Had a artist ticket, so backstage entrance. Thanks you for posting this. Just wondering: where did you find this video?

The live version of Missing Person is better than the recording - why didn’t they add in the weird Eddie Rayner trills and frills?

Can anybody hear Tim’s guitar on Missing Person? Or was it just a prop, as opposed to Neil’s nice keyboard work on I Hope I Never?
@j_msc Жыл бұрын
I can hear it, especially in Neil guitar solo part But it's not too audible and clear There's a clean audio copy of this excerpt, with Neil guitars panned in left audio and Tim's panned in right : kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaekgICspN2ZapY

The date given here must be wrong. Punk Pop is a summer festival and no way would you hold an outdoor concert in Europe in late November.

I always thought of Split Enz as the quirky, New Zealand cousin of Genesis, right down to the Gabriel vs Collins arguments. Judging by your username, you probably know exactly what I mean. 😉
