The Split Stance Single Arm Dumbbell Row is a great row variation that can provide a more stable stance than a traditional bent over row while also providing more room for the dumbbell. Begin standing with the dumbbell in one hand. Hinge at the hips to bring the hips back while keeping the back flat and chest out. From this position, step the same leg of the arm holding the weight back until you are in a split stance. The weight should be divided about 70/30 on your front and back legs, respectively. From this position, think about retracting the shoulder blade first, and then drawing the elbow back and bringing the weight towards the hip to complete the movement. Ensure slow and controlled movement. If you feel like you need to jerk or twist your body, the weight is too heavy.
