Yeah, I still think a few two-person mining flyers, each with a rear-facing manual turret, is the only strategy with the speed and flexibility to be survive sorties into the polar regions. Grab some ice, run away and draw the fire away from others, repeat. But the road train will be impressive, even though it's 100% gonna get shredded.

You have a train you want to “fuel”? Make a water tower with a spout (two hinges, a bunch of columns, and a small connector) to drop onto a small connector at the top of the main engine to recharge. It’s apocryphal. It’s anachronistic. It’s perfect.

"I wont do the skirting on the second locomotive since its not really needed" we will remind you of that quote once this thing gets shot at, loses its tires, you fail to unhitch the wagon and subsequently lose the entire thing. We all know this will happen in exactly that way because so far your track record of "we shouldnt need that actually" hasnt been that great. P.s: put a camera on the autocanon since the hinge gives more elevation then the "totaly normal and not at all goofy" turret cap gives visibility to the gunner.

The answer is use dual cannons on the Jalopy turret and let the rotor be slightly offset.

Main reason not to do that was the risk of any issues with the turret controller and offset mass - didn't like the idea of such a wonky mass being on the top of an already top heavy narrow guage train :D Even I have limits on where I'll go with those things :P

@@Splitsie Could have sunk and merged the jolopy into the top of the train at the very back and just made a set of controlled turrets from the jalopy seat. reduces some of that clang & weight while still giving it that fury road feel. Also from the looks of it you could have setup a second seat in the jalopy so effectively could have 2 people on turrets off the jalopy that way.

Having the turret look similar to the 40mm Bofors gun thats been used throughout history would be cool, probably tough in SE, but being the "Definitive" Anti-Air system for quite a while would be fitting

You know the land train idea would make for a really dope survival series. No bases, just salvaging while on the move different carriages for different things. Set a size limit for vehicles so small to medium Utes, tellies and buggies things you can park on a flat bed carraige. Big crane has its out carriage between to flat beds, scenario maybe an AI apocalypse, during the day robots spawns crank up really high but they putter out at night meaning youd be do a lot of night salvage for increasing challenge. Im just kinda shooting in the wind here the idea of land train series either multiplayer or solo sounds really cool.

You kinda need some ai block to make the turret swing into a "mountable" position when there is noone in the seat. Or just some buttons near where you approach it, to force it into a mountable position. :P

If you really wanted an internal ladder, you could put it in front of the survival kit. You can still recharge through the ladder, and you'd exit the ladder in line with the train car so you're not running straight off the roof.

I've suggested it a while ago, but you should totally look at possibly converting the Chinook into a train car. More mishmash of vehicles make more better!

Watching this late, but I really hope that he eventually makes an actually cargo container and a tail for the nugget so he can put scrap away inside the cargo container or something. I keep thinking it would make life so much simpler having a rooster tail or something with a maybe egg shaped cargo storage thing attached.

you know, there used to be a game by the name of ZMR (Zombies, Monsters, and Robots) also, hey splitsie, small idea, you can try and add small grid solar pannels to your fairy lights as some kind of umbrella cover that recharges the fairy light batteries. (kinda like an shady overhang for the outdoor cafe area) double also, you could probably make a third attachment segment for the back top of the nugget using a small merge block and 5 block long truss as it's connection point. said third attachment could be an aircrane trailer using the large thrusters and some large batteries for extra flight time as well as stilts that reach down that are for connecting to parts you intend to bring home.(though the aircrane trailer would also likely need another place to charge while you go and hook up yer nugget... unless you build it while the nugget is connected to it's charge point.)

4:48 Nah, that's pretty accurate actually. If you look at pics of Intermodal well cars, they have little catwalks similar to that over the hitch for workers to get from car to car (GE Dash 9 locomotives have them as well, but they're integrated into the steps).

if you are going for the "War rig" esthetic... you need "polecat" poles. hinges swinging struts with ladders on the top end, for "passengers" to swing around on them. (Also add decoys to the end of the waving poles)

You know.,.. you could widen the train car. If you extend the flooring of the car over the wheels you can widen the whole thing making more room inside for seats and other things. Just and idea

U could use some interior turrets with a rotor or hinge, those are not that uncommon, and ammo is plentiful too.

I think “mad maxing” the second carriage would totally help the revamped turret fit in even more too!! Also if you could work the guest into the spikes/ramp, I’m thinking of like how a tanks chassis ramps towards the turret, either that or out away from the turret

I love the idea of the train. I'm just wondering if it may have been easier to put the battery in the floor and the survival kit on top of it. From the looks of the locomotive, it has the wheels and 2 armor blocks above that. The battery laying down would be 2 armor blocks tall. You could then do some plate armor on the bottom of the car and still have the double blast doors behind the batter and survival kit. As for conveying the center, the bottom row of armor could be swapped for conveyors and small cargo containers, and you train car hinges made with pistons in bedded in the train cars connected with advanced rotor and hinges. This way, you could extend and retract the distance between cars if needed. Sorry if this by now is way over engineered.😅

The main reason I've avoided doing that is the risk of the battery interacting with the wheels, even without using short suspensions, there's a decent chance on a server that the sphere of the wheel will end up colliding with anything that occupies the blocks above the suspension blocks :( These will normally work ok in single player, but as soon as you add a little bit of latency it becomes a bit of a disaster

I to see at least 1 functional manned turret car, like get a full flat car dedicated to have big guns to manually shoot only for it to get shot up with someone in it so you'll know when it gets destroyed

At 17:00, could you put a ladder on the ceiling? People could grab the ladder from outside the door then press space to let go without ending up back outside. Being on the ceiling it would be easy to grab and not get in the way of walking around.

With putting the Jalopeturret on the top of the train: I think you could lower the chance of having the turret azimuth rotor popped by building the main part of the rotor on the bottom of the turret and the rotor part inset into the roof of the train with half-blocks surrounding both the rotor and the rotor part. I’m not sure how a multiplayer server will handle that, though.

i think you should've just embraced the asymmetry of the jalope. Put the rotors along either the left or right middle block and use the wider engine bay to have 2 autocannons linked together. Would increase the damage and hit chance of the turret to have 2 shots

I typically try to get batteries as low as possible on the chassis for balance. mayhaps a redesigned Jalopy centered on Odd Symetry for alternatives among the many other vehicles that could be added. strangely, I've not seen a single Tower Crane at all the whole series. only 1 seat or control station should be set as Main Cockpit, all others should have that option turned OFF

Agreed. You risk them hitting terrain and taking damage, but the stability gained is worth it. I'm working on a design which has a bunch of small wheels on the bottom of a chassis whose sole purpose is to help the rover get over jagged terrain without damage to the underside.

The batteries in the train are as low as they can realistically be for server play. If they were lowered closer to the wheels there would be a significant risk of collision and resultant disaster (even if the position would work in single player)

Maybe you should have a few cars at the back that you can drop off that act as Decoys to draw all the fire while yall drive away fast as yall can as the decoy cars get destroyed. Also you need a bigger gun for that turret, it looks sad with the small gun and not much of a threat lol

Ok hear me out... I think it will look much better, if you add the Jalopy to the Train as stationary pillbox (that is how they usually did it in Mad MAx) and do the turret to move off it (same spot, just higher for more angles). It won't be 360 degrees, mostly shooting to the back, but that is mostly what you will need. It would look better, than the entire thing swinging :)

51:40 Why rebuilding one side of a vehicle, it is much easier to cut thru the middle of an even symmetry vehicle by 1 block and merge two halves together and you will have odd symmetry :D

I fully expected to see the turret control seat mounted on the same sub-grid as the gun, that way the seat rotates AND elevates along with the barrel of the gun. The camera would just be to zoom in. Eh, maybe that can be done on another turret.

you could put a convayor converter on the other end of the servival kit then use convayors aas exhaust pipes for that engine (madmax style) haeding towarrds back of the engine.

One thing i see you try to do everytime Splitsie, is to grind bit by bit, but you got the advanced welding mod on, with the weld pad, and the detach option, so why dont you use also the precision grinding ? You know ? The function that lets you lock on one block and ONLY grind that block no matter where you point ?

That's unfortunately not something that Space Engineers can really handle. Putting lots of people in the one area with all their collected stuff will bring performance to its knees and make the game unplayable pretty quickly. Which sucks because a big scrap town would have been fun

why not turn the Chinook into a flying gunship. pilot, two door gunners, and a tail gunner. Add a few seat and you can "hot drop" an assault team/mining squad off in a combat situation

May i suggest a decending piston charger Boom box will be required for the train. Booming along Any chance of a small screen showing the camera so we can watch the gunners pov looking foward whilst shootin

Are you talking AA/Survival Unlikely style mini screen? That's entirely dependent on who can show up for the journey and if they can even record. Will just have to wait and see what happens there

That's even less likely, while I think there is a current plugin that allows it, the performance impact is horrific because you're rendering the whole game twice 😕
