I made my first walk away split this year. Completely different to yours but it worked. I moved three frames of bees/brood and 4 frames of honey to a new base about 3 metres from the original. And now, about 10 weeks later the queen has been laying. So now I consider myself a more experienced beekeeper! Me and my 3 hives lol

It's definitely fun doing your first split. So long as both halves have eggs and pollen/nectar stores it works. Helps to shake in some nurse bees too.

What a great box of Bee’s . As full as it was I think you could have added two supers to the bottom an two to the new top colony . That would sure be a great colony to graft queen’s from . Keep your video’s coming when possible. Thanks

Another great video! That hive is looking awesome. As my girls are all set for winter here the US I enjoy seeing folks working their bees. Seeing you work your bees makes the wait to March more bearable. :-)

Queen takes 16 days from egg to emergence add a few days to get mated depending on weather, your looking at nearer 3 or 4 weeks before I'd go back and check

5:05 Crikey MBBM hot smoker onto of the box is a bit rough on the chicks!! I have never seen a split done like that before, If that was my hive I would have split it 4 way or three given how many chicks and brood you had! Cheers for sharing the video, look forward to seeing the follow up, Stay safe!

Guess the only thing that maybe could have thrown a fork in your plans, did you shake out the every top cover of its bees or you confirmed the queen was not in that. I think you said you were going to take a look but not sure if you shook them down. Great videos we enjoy them all

Gon'a find myself a Frame or Two... Amongst the biggest Beard of Bees I've ever seen ! So many 🐝's you cannot even see the Brood Box !?! Hidden out of sight. Struth Mate, Far Out, they have almost gone Tropo on you... Luckily you got there before they did ! Aka Swarm on you... Enough to make a guy cry into warm beer (UK) or over a Cold one (Oz.) Hope my 'Girrls' are that good come Spring, here, Up Over in Scotland UK. I really miss the Aussie Banter...Down at the Magpie over a Stubbie and a P'late 🤗

@@Dougarrowhead i have bees that spend their time just breeding and not making honey despite the hive already being well populated.
