I use to heat my home with splid wood for over 30 years. It would take 5 trailer loads of wood to do that per year. The way this looks, a guy could have the machine split the wood over the top of the trailer thus eliminating the need to hand-load the trailer. That would have been awesome. Great video Captain!!!

The evolution of axe to small box store log splitters to the machine mounted wood processors. Not only do they get more advanced and complicated, but more expensive. In the end, it all depends on your budget and justifiable need.

Okay. Now that I’ve got the wood chips out of my eyes from being in the line of fire for the action shot I realize I’m slipping up and not being fully prepared with all the required PPE to watch a Captain Kleeman video. I’m sure in an 8 hour day you’ll split a huge pile of wood if you aren’t running a commentary and moving cameras around for all the great action shots. I predict that the pile of logs you have prepped will be gone much faster than you think.

@rickster9993
@rickster9993 Жыл бұрын
The way I've always worked here in Oklahoma is based on a rick being a third of a cord. A cord measures 8 ft long by 4 ft high by 4 ft wide. A rick measures 8 ft long by 4 ft high by 16 in wide. I have used wood at many widths based on the fireplace I'm cutting for. 16 in Long logs are the perfect length as far as I'm concerned. 16 in Long logs give the best burn through the length of the log. I have a friend the has a small pot belly stove and he likes 12 in logs. anything longer won't fit. The little stove he has will heat a large room, and you'll be shedding clothes.
@CaptainKleeman
@CaptainKleeman Жыл бұрын
So 16" logs aren't perfect then??? Lol appreciate ya watching
@rickster9993
@rickster9993 Жыл бұрын
@@CaptainKleeman I'm just saying I think 16 in. logs work best for overall burning. Anything longer and the center burns out leaving un-burnt ends. Anyway I figure out long ago, wood isn't an efficient heat source. I do enjoy a good outdoor camp fire but I won't ever go back to heating a house with wood as the primary heat source.
@tbix1963

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Cut and split all the firewood to heat my moms house thru high school and college. Although I’ve moved beyond that I will always have a passion for the tools and process’s behind it. Not sure how innovative my idea is, probably saw it somewhere before and just copying it. A metal square tube mounted thru a sleeve with locking screws could be mounted to the top of the splitting wedge reaching back towards the saw. Adjust the needed length and lock it down. It will stop the log moving forward when the log hits the end of the tube. The splitting sled with cut wood will continue forward under it. Just clamp the log in place before retracting the sled. You can get fancy and make it with various lengths and drilled holes for pins instead of friction locking screws. Also could devise a mount that’s removable so you can switch between wedges. Not sure if C&C wants you welding to it. 😂 hence the idea of making it removable. This certainly is the nicest style of splitter I’ve seen if you have something to power it.

I just finished putting a backup camera on my skid steer and video’d it. It does have a second input, so you could also mount a second camera like you did and done! Like you said, the hardest thing was finding a switched 12V source, but I got lucky in that there was an empty harness I could tap into. Good video!

I had one of those piles of heap! Yes it saves on the body but the fuel consumption ya use is ridiculous per cord wood. Then depending if you have to have the optional buttons to run the functions of the processor I fried 5 sets. Yes they warrantied it but what a headache. Also had that safety switch break twice for the log deck to move back and forth. The wedge would get so stuck in the beam had to drive it out or hook chain to the wedge and another tree to get it out to switch. Those are the issues I had. I ended up getting my money back and got a regular processor.
@CaptainKleeman
@CaptainKleeman Жыл бұрын
Fuel consumption is going to vary from machine to machine. But I think most people would expect to burn fuel when operating a machine. Curious to see if any of those issues show up you mentioned. But I've yet to run any equipment that doesn't have to be wrenched on at some point. Part of owning equipment. Appreciate ya y

@terryrogers1025

Well sir, I contend you could run 50’ long logs through that processor, for instance, you could use the V rollers you had from the boat trailer and make a frame to support over length log using the frame and with the processor being mobile you could adjust it to the frame to help support the length as you go along, especially if you have it mounted on the backhoe boom, to me what I am seeing is that loading the processor is what cuts down on the efficiency, cut the load time, increase production, just a thought young man.
