The last thing you did with the stock charts is EXACTLY why I'm hoping Fancy Zones helps. In the past 15 years, I never needed it, but Win11 now shuffles most of those open charts all over 3 monitors every time the machine sleeps the monitors. I'm at my wits end with this thing. If this doesn't work, I'm going back to Win 7 on my brand new machine.

Great demo, thanks Chris. What seems to be missing (having tried it yet) is something akin to i3 twm where certain apps can be pinned to a designated workspace (sort of like virtual desktops in Windows) and you can fire up a collection of workspaces at will so one collection for all your video editing tools f.ex., running it will open all the apps and cascade them nicely in place exactly where you left them obvious first world problem but yeah...still nice to have

The thing is that you can't open GoogleChrome with online site and make it fullscreen inside of zone. It make a fullscreen of whole monitor BUT really thank you! I have been looking for oportunity to divide my laptop for zones and look atleast video player (it wirking fullscreen inside zone great) :)

The one thing I want to know that is not covered in this or the previous video is: Can you resize the spaces AFTER you build your setup? Example: I set two even spaces 50/50. Can I make the left one 40 and the right one 60 after the fact?

maybe it's late for you, but yes, you can, you just have to "re-edit" your layout.

The quesetion is not 'how to make it work with another monitor' but how can fancy zones 'remember' it's settings for said monitors especially when they are removed or realigned often (a moving computer with a separate screen that is unplugged and replugged often It seems (for now) that fancy zones still needs some work on that, as it keeps forgetting it's layout or settings and has to be specified again and again. then again for an even broader application i'd love powershell support, allowing me to open an app automatically in a specific zone from the getgo would help in our specific marketing setups.

The reason i found this video was becausse i trying to find the info wheter you can play a game in zone whitout losing the mouse (i'm soon stepping over from 3 monitor setup to 1 58 inch) I liked the video but i didn't get the answer.

Chris, I'm trying to detect what I'm doing wrong with FZones. I'm running 5.1 but cannot get beyond booting the Editor and it's driving me mad. I run Chrome and underneath PowerToys have one of several Tabs open. After opening PT I select FZones and boot the Editor. I select (say) three columns. MS's instruction is to 'Click on your selection', the ghost of which I can see behind the selections, but on doing so the Editor closes and the three columns vanish and I'm back at PToys main screen. There is something very simple I'm not doing right. What is it? I need some baby steps, please.

I need to restart my pc several times a day, and I obviously need windows to remember the size of my explorer and programs windows at restart. I threw in the toilet lot of precious time every time for decades due to this problem. Why when i close windows holding down shift makes the system remember the size of windows but on restart these sizes are not remembered anymore? What can I do to get out of this Windows nightmare?

And all the work I went to to get my 3 portrait monitors all nicely aligned, but nowhere near as aligned as 60 or 70 inch 4K would be. Given the super low price for 4K OLED and QLED screens these days, It's hard to imagine anyone using "multiple monitors" every again.

I would use fancyzone but it doesn't allow to fullscreen within the zone. Im thinking with virtual monitors ill be able to fullscreen within the "zone"

The Stock Market or website pages didn't fit in the boxes. It would try to fit it in but would overhang outside the box so I don't see how this will work unless you know a way to get them to fit

I tried this with a 65" and when I made 4 zones and put a chrome tab in there, going fullscreen mode in the tab sized it back to the fullscreen... I want to watch 4 streams at the same time, what did I do wrong -.-

Keep a calculator app or EXCEL worksheet open in a small window. In EXCEL you could have the formulas present for proportioning the zone as 16:9, 16:10, 8.5:11, etc.

Yes there is a setting which you can set to 0 (default is 16 px) and it removes gap

Are you doing this on a pc or a laptop? If so can you please share the model because I tried it on a laptop with a 55 inch tv monitor and it is not snapping to fit correctly. The sizing is off and it is overlapping and it doesn't show near as much in each of the screens on the ones that do show.

doesnt work. every screen other then a browser doesnt size to what i specified. steam for example will take up more room then it should and the contents wont resize to fit the window so everything is wayyy too zoomed in. if that the only way this works then i dont see the point because multi tasking is impossible

Similarly is there a way to have the app recognize the tile as the "Full Screen" of the display so that maximizing the app window or using a Full Screen setting in a game would only fill the tile not the entire monitor?

Nope... there's some janky autohotkey options but Microsoft somehow doesn't think anyone wants this or it's too difficult to code somehow.

can you do this but fullscreen with black bars on the sides ? some games could use a bit of a fps boost and going from 5120x1440 to 32xx X 1440 would help a bit

Great video! Im sold on it and I downloaded it. However, I can not get the zones to appear when I am using my stock trading application. Etrade, TDAmeritrade, nor DAS trading platforms are able to move to a zone. In fact the zones do not even show up. It works fine with web pages though. I am holding down shift as I move the web page and letting go which makes it snap into the desired zone. Is it not possible or am I doing something wrong? Also, since I have a 49" screen ultimately I would like to maximize a small window chart window I have open in a larger zone (three charts to a zone is what I plan to have) but at this time, when I maximize a window that I can mange to get into a zone, it does not expand to the zone size. It expands to the screen monitor size. Is there a way around this? Thank you.

Update: It snapped to attention and it is now working fine. Not sure what happened or what i did, but all is well now. However the issue of getting a smaller window withing a zone to go full screen w/i the zone still exists and from a quick search online this seems to be a common issue w/o any resolution. Some say you must make a virtual monitor, others say its a windows issue. No matter. If/when a solution comes about I'll make the adjustment. Love you other videos also. You have a great presentation style and its all so informative.

Would you recomment to Change the Full-HD Monitors to good 4K 10-bit (or 12-bit) Monitors - or would you rather go for a 4K-/8K-TV (OLED) ? I just needed to buy a new Workstation (over 10K) - so the Budget for this Upgrade is "just" 3-5K (Max!) ...
