It looks like this will be a very informative video. I am having a lot of trouble getting past the very thick accent. Is this course also available from different presenters? It would be good if this course was given by three or four different presenters so the accent is more suitable for each target region.

As far as I understood this tool is not used for analyzing structured data from RDBMS (like MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle)? Right?
@edurekaIN
@edurekaIN 6 жыл бұрын
Hey MBVD, thanks for checking out our tutorial! Splunk is used for analyzing both structured data & unstructured data. But, it is more popular for analyzing unstructured data (machine logs) because analyzing structured data is very common and many tools can do that. Hope this helps. cheers!

Hi it seems that the architecture best practice has changed,: UF should send directly to Indexer, no HF in between.
@edurekaIN
@edurekaIN 7 жыл бұрын
+M Assens, thanks for checking out our tutorial! There is no compulsion that there needs to be a HF in between a UF and Indexer. The UF can be used to straight away forward the data to the indexer. HF can be used at times when data needs to processed and compressed before forwarding to the Indexer. But, if need be, the architecture can also be configured to have a HF in between UF and Indexer. To understand this same concept better, please watch this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5zEmmuCo5Zkf9k. The role of UF in the Splunk architecture is discussed at 19:26, the need and role of HF is discussed at 21:35. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi ,I'm the beginner in Splunk. I have used a search command and piped with delete to delete the indexes . Now when i try to search it shows nothing but the indexes are still showing the events. Could you please let me know how to delete the indexed events in my local windows system. Appreciate your help !.
@edurekaIN
@edurekaIN 7 жыл бұрын
+Konda Reddy, thanks for checking out our tutorial! The Splunk search language provides the special operator delete to delete event data from subsequent searches. Before using delete, read this section carefully. Note: You cannot run the delete operator during a real-time search; you cannot delete events as they come in. If you try to use delete during a real-time search, Splunk Enterprise will display an error. The delete operator can only be run by a user with the "delete_by_keyword" capability. By default, Splunk Enterprise ships with a special role, "can_delete" that has this capability (and no others). The admin role does not have this capability by default. It's recommended that you create a special user that you log into when you intend to delete index data. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Does splunk restrict the log format of any server to read in splunk?
@edurekaIN
@edurekaIN 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Aklank, thanks for checking out our tutorial! With regard to your query, it does not work like that. Windows generates log data during the course of its operation. The Windows Event Log service handles nearly all of this communication. It gathers log data published by installed applications, services and system processes and places them into event log channels. Programs such as Microsoft Event Viewer subscribe to these log channels to display events that have occurred on the system Splunk Enterprise can monitor event log channels and files stored on the local machine, and it can collect logs from remote machines. The event log monitor runs as an input processor within the splunkd service. It runs once for every event log input that you define in Splunk Enterprise. If you have Splunk Cloud and want to monitor event log channels, use the Splunk Universal Forwarder to collect the data and forward it to your Splunk Cloud deployment. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Can you tell me how to retrive data from Splunk in Java...
@edurekaIN
@edurekaIN 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Akshay, thanks for checking out our tutorial! We're glad you liked it. With regard to your query, yes you can do it. The Splunk Plug-in for Eclipse is now available. It provides tooling to support creating projects in the Eclipse Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with the Splunk Software Development Kit (SDK) for Java, and for running Java applications with instrumentation on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) that logs the application's activity to Splunk. Splunk SDK for Java This SDK contains library code and examples designed to enable developers to build applications using Splunk. With the Splunk SDK for Java you can write Java applications to programmatically interact with the Splunk engine. The SDK is built on top of the REST API, providing a wrapper over the REST API endpoints. So with fewer lines of code, you can write applications that: Search your data, run saved searches, and work with search jobs. Manage Splunk configurations and objects. Integrate search results into your applications. Log directly to Splunk. Present a custom UI. Hope this helps. Cheers!
