If you read the book this is based on or have been reading Michael Ausiello’s tv blog/website since the early 2000’s, you’ll know Jim Parsons is perfectly cast. Michael had always looked older than he actually is.

I agree with this review 100%. This one should have gotten as much promotion as Bros, and I consider it better as well. It was very cute. The annoyances of them not looking the appropriate ages were quickly overcome by great performances from Jim and Ben.

I might be blind, but I don't think Parsons was miscast. He's an attractive fellow that looks 10 years younger then his age. I believed him as Michael. Also, this is the third role he's had with the name Michael.

I liked your review of Spolier Alert. I agree with everything you said. It is a good and touching movie. And, I can only think of positive things about it. I also agree that I was worried that Jim Parsons may not have been a good choice for the lead role in the movie. However, as I watched it, he was actually a perfect choice. Very well done. My brother actually wanted to see the movie because Jim Parsons was in it, because he thought it was going to be a comedy. And, its a good thing that I explained to him that it is not a comedy before he watched it. Yet, he was still mad because it wasnt funny like the Big Bang Series. But, he still liked the movie. For me it reminded me a lot of the Long time companion movie. Where a group of friends were watching their friends and lovers die from AIDs. It was very well done.

90% of all movies featuring gay male characters have a bar or disco scene. It fits right into the narrative most homophobes, evangelicals, and people "on the fence" have about gay men: all we do is party and have sex ! They call it a "life style", which is BS as there is no such thing as a "gay lifestyle".

Well, you do know that Jim Parsons and his husbands were the ones who wanted to bring the memoir to the big screen, which is why they got the rights from Ausiello and produced the feature. As for casting Ben to fall for Jim, Jim has always been geeky-looking, which is what makes him a good choice for the role of Michael, as Christopher's type is the geek/dweeb.
@sanniwartinen3595 Жыл бұрын
I absolutely loved Jim Parsons in this role, and I really enjoyed this flick! One of the more authentic, believable, and touching love story movies Ive seen in a long time. When I saw the trailer I thought the same as this reviewer ( that Jim Parsons seemed wrong or off in the role somehow ) but after watching the film I really loved him in this! Totally different character than Sheldon Cooper, and sometimes it can be hard or even career ruining when an actor plays a recurring t.v. character for SO many years and then cant be believed as any other character. I think this movie proved to the world he can play a diverse set of roles/characters. I also loved Sally Field in this movie. If you enjoy tearjerkers and romantic love story movies, I highly recommend this film!

I thought this was a comedy when before I watched it I never cried so much in a movie. Ben Aldridge is should I say, perfect casting. Considering hge is British, no one would have guessed. So though I agree the gay scene meeting in the bar are all about superficial, how could Kit have been attracted to someone like Jim's character However once in a very very blue moon much like the way this non fiction story turned out, sometimes for whatever reasons, a very attractive guy may just not pick a mirror image of himself. (rare in a gay context and it happens more rarely but still happens) An excellent movie highly recomended. The death scene is one of the most touching 15 minutes in any movie I have ever seen. When Jim ask Kit how do you feel leaving the show being such a popular character, and the reply was I will miss it - very clever reply and what Jim asked what his character was supposed to do after 13 years? Again very clever reply 'You'll be fine.' and the reponse by Jim character just brings tears, it''ll be incredebly difficult but I'll be fine. And the moment Jim came to terms of letting go, it was this same scene where Kit's character was rushed by the production crew and Jim said, 'you can go now' and that splits into the death scene where the pulse stop when Jim say 'you can go now' this is incredibly incredibly emotional.

I wondered "Who is that looking like a screaming turtle?" and it's Jim Parsons🤣 If a side piece shows up to the death bed, I agree that it would be hard to not choose violence. A movie about a gay male couple where one has to die at the end.... how fresh! how original! Must we always either commit suicide or die of some terminal disease in EVERY dramatic film centered on gay male characters? Sorry, but this has been a tired Hollywood cinematic tradition for the past 80 years at least! I'm still waiting for movies that depict us as people, not as victims and not as characters soaked in stereotypes. I recently saw "The Whale". That one had a great lead performance (easy Oscar bait) but the script outdid the long lineage of other depressing films in which we gay men are portrayed as "victims" as it featured not one, but two suicides of gay men. I wished for an anti-depressant after leaving the theater. The narrative of gay men as victims MUST GO. It's been done.... literally to death.... Interesting how Hollywood is always presented as being so "woke" but I think they are asleep when it comes to how they consistently depict gay men as clichés, stereotypes, and victims. Everyone acted like "Brokeback Mountain" was some ground-breaking film but it too stuck to the typical template of gay-man-as-victim.
