Seeing Egon's death caught me off guard and had me in tears. But it was the ending that destroyed me. See, my father passed away last month and we weren't close the last few years of life. I never thought I would ever say this about a Ghostbusters movie, but the ending of this one was really emotional for me. It made me think of my mother. She had a wonderful sense of humor and we watched the old films a lot together. Her favorite scene was when the guys blasted the maid cart, and the maid said, “What the hell are you doing?” She used to get into belly laughs during that and so many other scenes. She died of a rare form of cancer in 2008. The ending of this film reminded me she was taken far too soon. I was really pleased with this film. Yes it has flaws and some things don’t work. But most of it does work, and I could tell it was made with love. This was the first movie I’ve seen in a theater since the pandemic started. I’m grateful that this one welcomed me and my family back. The theater is a place that still has the power to entertain, think, and bring us to tears.

On behalf of the state of...' line followed by Venkman saying "Bravo." Seeing 3 of the originals suited up & ready to go made me more emotional than any movie has in a long time. Olivia Wilde killed it as Gozer with a remarkable, spot on performance, Phoebe is the perfect choice as the face of the next generation of Ghostbusters, & they honored Harold Ramis so beautifully and I got emotional seeing Egon help his granddaughter and his old friends & their goodbye seemed so real & genuine. Something that just clicked with me thinking about the movie a couple days after watching, was Egon’s unfinished business. Clearly he floats up into the ether, his life on earth complete. At first I thought his unfinished business was stopping Gozer again. But he doesn’t float away when they beat gozer. He has a moment with Phoebe, he has a moment with Trevor, and then he gets to hug Callie, who finally realizes he really did love her. His unfinished business wasn’t defeating Gozer, it was protecting his family (and I’ll include the guys in this) and letting them know he loved them, specifically Callie. And I’m sitting here crying after this realization.

People never die. I was taught this long ago. As long as we remember them and talk about them they live on. Just because Egon is no longer here on earth, he still exists in our hearts and as a spirit in gb. Just because he dispersed in the movie doesn’t mean he is gone. My brother and I went and saw it yesterday. The moment you see Egon's face, the whole place lit up and applauded. I was an absolute mess of tears. And I have to agree with you, in that it didn't feel forced at all. I even told my brother how cool it'd be if they did some sort of "Egon comes back as a ghost, but he's still a Ghostbuster" kind of thing, and they didn't disappoint even a little bit. It was a nice send-off, giving the fans the chance to say goodbye to such a beloved character. When Winston says, "I miss you, my friend," I really began to choke up, then the whole "For Harold" message just destroyed me. It was a beautifully done movie, and I hope to see another one very soon down the line, with the kids taking up the mantle. Excellent review! Thank you!

Annie had that small part in the post credit scene with Ernie in NY that makes me think that they're gonna make Winston a Tony Stark, financier type of role for future ghostbusting endeavors and im sure out of the three legacy actors remaining, that Ernie would be ripe for a role like that. Take the solid performances from Grace and company, throw in occasional cameos from Bill and Dan and Annie and Sigourney and company, I think the franchise is ready to roll again for a long time.

I've been waiting all my life for a 3rd Ghostbusters movie to come out and I can't believe that it's actually here, this movie is amazing!!!!!!!! :D*

I saw it twice on opening day. Once with friends and the second time on my own, late at night. All the issues you mentioned I had as well and they dissapeared when I watched it for the second time. I guess I was more relaxed as I already knew that it was overall good. I absolutely LOVED it the second time. I am going to go one final time next week, cannot wait!

I cried the second Egon appeared to help Phoebe, tears kept dripping down my face throughout the family scene and my word I cried when it said For Harold. I could have never imagined the film being this good. Mckenna Grace played her part brilliantly. She's going to be a brilliant actress.

Egon is not CGI. he’s played by Oliver Cooper who looks very much like Harold Ramis. That’s why there’s no dialog from him. It’s shocking and made me cry but it’s definitely not CGI!

I think it was smart to have the theme song at the end of the film because it shows it’s the start of a new generation of Ghostbusters now that these kids are now actual Ghostbusters.

The way they incorporated Egon into the story, was like what Pixar did for *_Cars 3_* - using old unused lines from Paul Newman as Doc Hudson and incorporating him into the story to inspire Lightning McQueen, but taking it to the next level.

It’s a great film and well (for the most part) executed sequel, but it can’t easily replace over 30 years of love for GB2. It’s different, in a good way. We always knew the continuing adventures of Ray, Winston and the like wouldnt go on forever. Great way to move things forward. Jason Reitman has also confirmed that GBII is still canon!

The extended commercial in GBII confirms that the “peace” or “two” sign is a marketing promotion. Ray says “twice the” multiple times. As many business do, after the promotion ended the marketing went back to regular. Aka the logo went back to normal

I'm sorry, what? Her jokes were hilarious from the start. I was genuinely surprised by McKenna Grace. I watch Young Sheldon, and I found out the actress who played Paige on that was in this. Pretty late in the movie sitting in the theater I was wondering "Where is she". I didn't realize she was Phoebe. Between the very different physical appearance and the different characters, I'm convinced she can have a long career ahead of her, she's talented, especially for her age.

Jason, my thanks for this great spoiler review my friend. In your opinion, wouldn’t have been awesome if in the second credit scene, Louis Tully came in the room while Winston and Janine were speaking, he would have made a great accountant for Winston’s company and would have made that scene epic, would have loved to see he still does the ghostbusters’ taxes in a way haha.
@whos-the-stiff3 жыл бұрын
Louis as Winston's accountant would have made that scene epic, truly. Its a shame Rick isn't there some way, especially as he made that commercial with Ryan Reynolds, proving he's OK to get back in front of a camera.

The entire theater erupted into applause when the team showed up and Venkman said "Did you miss us?" Again, applause as the credits rolled. I can count on one hand the amount of times an audience has actually done stuff like that since the very first film I ever saw, The Black Stallion in '79 (another notable time was when the opening text crawl and music for Star Wars Episode 1 started, only for that to be a massive stinker). Not a whole hell of a lot can manage to move me to tears, but man, this one just about did. I've lost 3 of my oldest friends this year alone, and two of them were huge Ghostbusters fans, so seeing Egon's ghost was just about too much, but in the best way. The franchise is in good hands, I'd say.

Haha yeah I was wondering about that myself... that must have been one awful (or super cool, thinking about it) starbucks. Although I do remember hearing something about the post credit scene in the firehouse being filmed long after Afterlife wrapped up, so maybe when they realised the film was going to do really well they added something extra to set up for a sequel, or just realised they needed more of the OG cast in there somewhere... this was made for the big screen, I know. but it feels like it should have been a mini series. so with the cuts made, for sure there is a lot that had to be cut for run time constraints. I do wish that Jason and everyone has plans for an Extended director's cut release where time constraints don't matter. the cuts may have fallen on floor but was saved. Afterlife has a run time of 124 minutes. the OG GB has a run time of only 105 minutes. so they were pushing to the limit the run time. so scenes and part of scenes where cut. the average time for theractrical release is about 90 minutes max. world wide.
