I absolutely loved the film; it was perfect! I'll admit that the plot twist surrounding Kimber honestly threw me for a loop That doesn't take away from her character, but I've got to say that I wish there was a way to retcon this so that she's more like her sisters, to keep from divulging plot spoilers I did love seeing the Joes (rather, Cobras) interact with Jem and other characters; that was pretty awesome. Kevin was a great original character.

I just happen to think that it's one thing to make creative changes to the story, for whatever reasons- for fan appeasement (Kimber/Stormer as a couple), or for copyrights (swapping Jacqui & Emmet's deaths), but its another to completely change a character's backstory because the writers and directors happen to like a particular genre. KImber as a robot (android?) isn't meant to take away from the character, but as a plot point as of itself, it does. It does detract from her. There are so many secrets that could be told about Kimber's parentage, if that was where things were to go- most notably that she's the product of an extramarital affair from either Jacqui or Emmet, and that could add to some angst or tension- why she feels left out or more hurt with Emmet's death-- But this, honestly it feels like a cop-out, and as a somewhat related point, for a film that prided itself on being more like the original Jem, and not a corporate money grab like Jem the Movie (Braun, Blum & Chu), this one change does change how Kimber as a character is viewed, and it changes the entire dynamic of the band, and the sisterhood of sorts. Yes, it's your retelling. Yes, you have that right. But for a film that's supposed to be for the fans of Jem, the 1980s series, this truly bothered me, disturbed me, that the creative changes led to this as the plot twist when there are so many, many other organic plot twists that do not involve Kimber being a machine. Yes, of course I'd like you to retcon this- to have her revert to being a person, a flesh and blood human, instead of something that borders on Vicki from Small Wonder, and the Terminator. Please. You could say that Aja and Jem lied in case the Baroness was listening, or that the plans were actually for a body for Synergy, and Emmet, who based Synergy's plans on Jacqui, chose to make Synergy's eventual robot body look like KImber, but never got the plans off the ground. There are just so many creative ways to both tell your retelling without, please forgive me, alienating many of the fans who grew up with the series that this fan movie is trying to connect to.

I'm so glad you decided to include Jem into the larger Hasbroverse with G.I. Joe in this film. I was really disappointed by how Jem was left out of the Hasbroverse in the comics so getting to see this here really made me happy! I hope that if you do more films like this in the future you continue to have little nods and crossover with other hasbro properties!

I'd chip in for a fan comic if it was on the cards. I recently read that "Outrage" fan comic from 2010, there was a lot in there that was on point for the cartoon finale that Christy Marx should have got the chance to write. Was enjoying it.............at least until the last 3 pages where they break Stormer's heart for no good reason.

In the Jem Journal 4, Chloe says that making a film about a subject that's dear to people's hearts is hard because you're scared to get it wrong. I know I've been saying my critiques about a lot of small (or large) points in the film. I haven't said enough about what I love about the film You have got 95% of the film ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! It's everything I could ever want Jem to be, as a series, as a group, as a movie. You've got everyone I love- Jerrica, Kimber, Shana, Aja, Raya (MY FAVORITE!), Rio, Pizzazz, Roxy, Stormer, and Jetta; not to mention Anthony Julian (AWESOME CAMEO BY ANDRE!), Lindsay Pierce, and countless others. Everyone's freakin' spot on. You got Synergy right, looking all hot and awesome and purple, and you got Emmet and Jacqui right, Emmet's the scientist and Jacqui's the rock singer. It sounds silly but that scene with Kimber in the toilet and the rest of the girls stick their heads into the stall while Jerrica is talking to her- that was just SO JEM - it was something I'd expect to see in the show. Aja teasing Kimber about her worries being a boy or a girl, Pizzazz screaming (literally anytime that happens), Roxy, Jetta and Stormer were perfect. Kevin wasn't Zipper but he was awesome- something I'd have loved to see in the original series. There's so much of it that I loved. It would be callous of me to say that this movie "Totally Missed The Point" because it truly didn't. Sure, I'd have made some minor plot changes, have some things work out differently, but that's my retelling, my vision, and you should have yours- the world's certainly big enough for many retellings. There was so much I loved about this series. It was like I was seven again, watching my favorite show. Thank you thank you thank you!

I guess I would've rather preferred that the Baroness had gotten it wrong, that Kimber was a human being, and that the big secret was that Kimber was bi or not Jem's sister in that Jem doesn't have a sister, but Jerrica does. I would've even preferred the secret to be that Kimber was either Jacqui's or Emmet's child from a previous affair - still making Kimber not Jerrica's sister. I feel horrible for saying such things. I mean, it's your retelling of the story. I've written plenty of fanfic where I've had characters paired off with others, or written plot points that not everyone would agree with. It just disturbs me to no end that this is how this particular story goes. I shouldn't dwell on one small point- the entire film, all the characterizations, and everything from their appearance to the fourth wall jokes and the humor, its all spot on to the show, and I love every moment of it, from Ba Nee's obsession with her father, to Raya's quips about the toilet paper, to Rio's love for Jerrica and infatuation with Jem- everything's there and everything's perfect! I love this so very much!

I agree. Mostly because there was no real need to make Kimber specifically to be a sister to Jerrica when they already had Aja and Shana there. But they did a fun job, and it's their story. And it's only a minor part of the story at the end anyway.

As a fan of The Misfits (I love how Pizzazz and Stormer were depicted, wish Roxy and Jetta had more time) I would like to know if you are going to release "Big Time" as separate music video? The song is brilliant and the whole concept behind it reminds me of "Dead End Justice" by The Runaways. BTW - "My mother told me nothing" - is that an actual reference to Pizzazz's mother? ;)

Everytime I see this movie, I can't get over how much everyone looks and acts and sounds like they stepped off the tv screen in 1988. Everyone is just perfect in their -- everything-- The sets, lighting, and oh god, the special effects, like Pizzazz screaming or Rio and Jerrica kissing- those are EPIC! Loved this so much! I wonder if other characters like Danse, or the Stingers might show up in other episodes?

Buzz Dixon brought me here. So about the crossover... already established in the 80's cartoons through Buzz Dixon's character Hector Ramirez, who appeared in GI Joe, Jem, Transformers and Inhumanoids. Was always waiting to see the crossovers on TV that never came except one episode of Transformers with Snake, so absolutely loved this.!!!! Hope to see more from you guys.

I really enjoyed the movie and thank you for clarifying some of the choices that were made. I wasn't expecting the GI Joe crossover but really enjoyed it and I hope if you are able to continue with your take on it we get to see some more of the characters and scenes you weren't able to work into this part. Can I also say as a big fan of the comic I was so happy you had Stormer and Kimber as a couple in the movie? Oh and the music videos were wonderful too and so sorry for fanboying but you really did such a great job. Loved it.

I know this was 2 years ago now and maybe I just haven’t found it but if you haven’t made one yet, I would love to see a sequel. Jem was my childhood. I developed my love of music from watching the cartoon. This is what the 2015 movie should’ve been like. Thank you so much for doing this.

You guys did the cartoon justice, and while i wasn't crazy about Kimber being a robot, the Benton parents deaths being switched, and seeing Riot in army gear. I still loved the movie and it was beautiful, i really did love this movie. I was so happy to see the movie popped up on my phone in notification box. Also the comics gave me an idea for a sequel; since Cobra knows of Synergy, maybe they try to build a holographic computer of their own....but the Computer goes rogue and becomes SILICA (from the Dark Jem comics arc)....

I'd like to politely say this Representation is of the utmost importance and I know a lot of fans loved the Kimber and Stormer relationship that was featured in IDW comics. However, this was not in the show for a number of reasons. Namely, the episode The Bands Break Up, which many fans allude to, has less to do with finding love or anything romantic than with finding individual emotional solace, understanding and refuge for both women at a time when their respective bands were treating them like garbage- Kimber wanted to get out of the role of Jerrica's tag a long little sister, and Stormer wanted to stop being seen as the group's resident goody goody. That was each woman's own desire and had nothing to do with finding a girlfriend. In that regard, The Bands Break Up fits in more with Kimber's Rebellion and Father's Day, which deal with Kimber coming to terms with her own personality, her own place in the band, and in the family. Having said that, if there were to be canon out characters, I'd have rather they followed Christy Marx's idea- namely to have Techrat as a gay or bi character; fan theories include Riot and the Countess, or perhaps Lindsay "Lin Z" Pierce or Constance "Clash" Montgomery, as individual characters who aren't set in canon as boy crazy- Kimber was definitely depicted as boy crazy, knowing more boys and having dated more boys on the show than any other female character. Nothing's wrong with dating a lot of boys. Nothing at all. But when she's depicted as such, changing it up for the sake of calling it representation when there are plenty of other characters around who have less fleshed out private personas who could have been better tablets for representation. Video, Clash, Lin Z, the Countess, Techrat or Riot could all have been written as bi or gay or another orientation. We know far less about them.

Wait a minute. If Riot is some kind of liaison to GI Joe, presumably given the mission of "protect the Holograms". That means they would probably brief him on Synergy and the hologram tech. Thus he would know that the woman he loves technically doesn't exist.

I do have just two questions, could you get permission to use the original songs? and Is that Britta phillips singing in the fan film? anyways I have been waiting for this since I was like 7, my favorite songs from the cartoon was "it takes a lot", "how you play the game", and "set your sails". All the girls were Beautiful, and I loved seeing more of the characters connections.

Definitely not intended to be a parody, but hopefully funny! I noticed your previous comment so I hope you don't mind me answering here. Although this is episode length and episodic, the story was intended to be a feature if we met our stretch goals. We were SO LUCKY to meet our first goal, but could only afford (and with many favors) this length. Hope you enjoyed it!

I always find stretch goals an bad idea as it limit what you can do as you always worry about get the stretch goals done. I think it super great you put it all you time and money on the first goal to has it as best it can be. witch it was great fun to watch.
