Spooky Tooth were an English rock band. Principally active between 1967 and 1974, the band re-formed several times in later years.
Prior to Spooky Tooth, four of the band's five founding members had performed in the band Art (formerly known as The V.I.P.'s). Following the dissolution of Art, the members of that band's final line-up (guitarist Luther Grosvenor, vocalist Mike Harrison, drummer Mike Kellie and bassist Greg Ridley) joined forces with American keyboardist/vocalist Gary Wright in October 1967 and formed Spooky Tooth. Wright was introduced to the members of Art by Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records.[1]
Their debut, It's All About, was released in June 1968 on Island Records[2] and was produced by Jimmy Miller, who was also the man behind the boards for Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith .

Brilliant band. My favorite album of 1969. (Stiff competition for sure) R.I.P Gary, Mike H.,Mike K., Greg. Only Luther Grosvenor is still with us. Spooky Two is an album I first bought in '89. I got it and Music From Big Pink at the same time. MFBP I got immediately but Spooky Two took a little while. Once it grabbed me it hasn't let go. The Band album was good but this was next level music for me. I met a young lady at a used record store about seven years ago. She mentioned she was buying 60s music on vinyl. I found Spooky Two and said "Here, trust me." She bought it.

Mike Harrison's vocals are soulful, the rhythm guitar so warm and crunchy, and the elevating "atmosphere" added by probably Gary Wright and the producer.

A ‘supergroup’ in reverse, meaning members went onto become famous after leaving the band: Gary Wright, Henry McCullough, Chris Stainton, Mick Jones, Greg Ridley and Luther Grosvenor onto groups like Wings, Foriegnor, Steeler’s Wheel and Wright as a platinum solo act and Stainton has been touring with Clapton for 40 years. Love them!!

Interesting looking back on talented but youthful groups. The uninhibited exhibition of feelings provides a contagious feeling among fans. It's all part of art...there's no right or wrong. You tend to lose this spontaneity when trying to create a more disciplined approach to music. It's a trade off. Throw in the business of music, the profit incentives and the drugs and you really have a volatile situation. My cousin Jimmy Miller produced this group.

Sort of a heavy version of the Small Faces. Small wonder -- Spooky Tooth bassist Greg Ridley was also the original bassist for Steve Marriott's post-SF band, Humble Pie. While Tooth's songwriting wasn't as imaginative, "That Was Only Yesterday" and "Walking in the Wind" are first-rate.

Someone, commented that they do a cover, of "I Am The Walrus". I'd like to check that out. Gary Wright, on keys, here, went on to play, on George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" Album, and did "Dream Weaver", later. Just watched the "Get Back!" documentary. Hard to believe, that this footage is from the same year. Great times, for music.
