He IS the Spoonman who the song was written about & performed in the recording and in the video. This performance was quite a few years ago. His name is Artis.

I agree I was just writing one about him since no one else did it, my tentative title is "utensil man" but my other band mates think "spoon" is better. We do early 90's grunge type of sounds. Hopefully it works out.

I met him this weekend in Port Townsend he was at the blues festival workshop. We didn't talk soundgarden though but I got advice from him because I'm learning to play percussion using things like spoons and bones. He gave me tips and told how long he's been playing. Really sweet man!!!

a most amazing performance...second to none...you dance like a whirling dervish....such true beauty of crafted randomness spills from your inner beauty....you have no idea what an inspiration you are to me artis.....you are a true artist in the most purest form.....a lot of musicians can say alot of things about chords and theory...about right and wrong....they put shit over shit....and try to hide it....but one things for certain......stunning performances like these.....don't walk by everyday.

What are you talking about? It makes a sound, it makes a rhythm; it's an instrumentalism and a practice, in other words it's an art. You don't need an acoustics or arts degree to recognize that fact. The word "art" means only that, a skill or a craft.

yeah the songs not about artis. It's about drugs... "spoon", and artis actually got a shit deal out of the sound garden track. he deserved more. How do I know? he's one of our closest family friends and talk to him on regular occasions. H eplayed whilst sitting next to me in a car.
