Here's a concise video summary generated by ChatGPT for quick reference : The video discusses a journaling technique called the "5-minute Death Journal" aimed at promoting reflection, productivity, and gratitude. Here are the main ideas and prompts from each exercise mentioned in the video: 1. *Exercise 1: The Deathbed Time Machine Tour* - Reflect on the top three moments of your day as if you were revisiting them on your deathbed. - Choose moments that bring meaning and significance to your life, even in mundane activities. 2. *Exercise 2: The Wise Old Man Who Teaches You Stuff* - Personify your day as a wise old man imparting lessons. - Reflect on the lesson learned from your day, even from unexpected sources or events. 3. *Exercise 3: The Evil Serial Kidnapper* - Imagine being kidnapped and given three tasks to accomplish the next day. - Plan three concrete tasks to improve yourself or your life, with imagined accountability to ensure completion. 4. *Exercise 4: The Karmic Well of Universal Awesomeness* - Consider what positive actions you've done to make the world a better place. - Reflect on the impact of your actions on others, no matter how small. 5. *Exercise 5: The Internal Springs of Never-Ending Gratitude* - Write about what you're most grateful for each day, promoting a mindset of gratitude. - Reflect on the positive effects of gratitude on mental health and brain function. The overarching idea is to spend five minutes at the end of each day engaging in these exercises to promote self-reflection, productivity, and gratitude, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and meaningful life. My sincere thanks to the creator at Spoonfedstudy for their effort in making the insightful video.

Read this if you wanna go through the points after watching the video, or the future you revisits this video. 1. The deathbed Time machine tour of today 1. Imagine you're abt to die. You can visit one day from your entire life. What are the top 3 moments of today you want your 80 year old self to experience again? 2. You need to be concise and you can only pick 3. 3. Prove it to him (80 year old self) that this day was worth revisiting. 2. Wise old man 1. Imagine your day to be a wise old man. 2. Ask yourself, what did the wise old man teach me today? 3. It can be any small thing. 3. Evil serial kidnapper 1. He kidnaps you, and lets you go, if you promise to finish 3 things tomorrow. If you don't, he'll drown your hamster. 2. These 3 things need to be as concrete as possible. You should know exactly how you are going to get them done. 3. Be as specific as possible. What, How and When should be pretty clear for any task. OP gives an example of "I'll read 20 pages, of green book, after lunch" 4. If you DON'T get it done, the next day you'll write a plea to the kidnapper explaining why you didn't follow through. 5. You may be able to see a recurring pattern of what excuses you had etc. 4. The karmic well 1. Imagine a well where all the good actions get deposited. 2. Ask yourself, when did you deposit in it today? 3. Ie. what have you done today to make the world a better place? 5. The eternal springs 1. Gratitude has lasting changes, upto 6 months according to a study. (I've skipped the details, as you've seen the video once, you probably don't need to be convinced again) 2. Use one sentence to write about what you were grateful for, today. - Why is it called the death journal? Each day, is like a friend. Celebrate the death of each day as if it were a friend. \ - You'll prolly need a min per exercise. Spend 5 mins every night. - OP has a notion template in the video description if you wanna try it out. [Personally, I use obsidian]

• Journaling is beneficial for reflecting, decluttering the mind, and building long-term brain connections associated with control, decision-making, and happiness. • The 5-minute Death Journal involves specific exercises: 1. The Deathbed Time Machine Tour - reflect on the top three moments of the day for your 80-year-old self to revisit. 2. The Wise Old Man - learn a lesson from the day. 3. The Evil Serial Kidnapper - set three specific tasks for the next day to prioritize and accomplish. 4. The Karmic Well of Universal Awesomeness - reflect on the positive actions done to make the world a better place. 5. The Internal Springs of Gratitude - write about what you are grateful for each day. • Practicing these exercises daily for 5 minutes can lead to transformative benefits in mental health and decision-making. • The Death Journal aims to celebrate each day as a valuable friend and acknowledge its passing to prevent days from being forgotten or unappreciated.

I love this video and will give it a try. I do tend to spend 5 minutes just on gratitude alone so I think the death journal template would take me 20-30 minutes as described here. Is it important to consider the questions and write so quickly? (1 minute per question is so fast!!)
@spoonfedstudy5 ай бұрын
That’s totally reasonable! Doesn’t have to be five minutes. For me, I know I can always spare five minutes but if I expect it to be a 20-minute task, I usually end up not doing it altogether :(
@spoonfedstudy5 ай бұрын
Oh and another trick I usually do is start thinking about the prompts beforehand or throughout the day as they happen so I can hit the ground running when I start. And essentially, start experiencing the benefits of gratitude (for example) as I’m already engaging those centers of the brain earlier in the day

@zbyszeks36575 ай бұрын
1. Very good advice. Diary is good. 2. Too many parts with too many subparts. For example point 5 - gratitude is kinda point 1 - what do you want to remember 3. Wrong allegory or perspective concerning death as smth you need past written and remembered cause it's the end and you may end with nothing. In that self-defeating perspective nothing really you would do, won't improve your situation cause the bottom line is you die and that's it. I would propose Life Journal or Transform Journal or Journey Journal, cause we can transform ourselves through life or we may conserve our state of being, and our life is a journey - yes - to the moment of death, but probably most ppl in the world believe - and we can't exclude such possibility - that death might be not the complete end but kind of door, and that changes the whole perspecitve. You write journal to grow, not to preserve.

This video couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I went through a period of grief about 1.5 years ago and during that time, I did a lot of meditating, gratitude journalling and CBT practices to help support my mental health. It worked amazingly but as I started feeling better, I gradually let those habits slip. Recently, I wanted to pick up those practices again and actually started last night but that practice seems less relevant today then it did back then. This practice seems to provide exactly what I am looking for at the perfect time. A positive journalling practice. Thank you so much for creating this opportunity for me.

Hi what is the difference between the top 3 moments of the day (step 1) and the gratitude (step 5) ?
@spoonfedstudy5 ай бұрын
There definitely may be some overlap but I guess it’s the emotion and the purpose underlying each step. The emotion of step 1 is excitement, fun, good times whereas step 5 is specifically engaging gratitude centers of your brain as a dedicated space. You may be grateful to have those top three moments in step 1 and that’s awesome too! No harm in doing multiple birds with one stone. For me, purpose of step 1 is also more summarizing the day (with focus on the good parts) for the future so when I look back, I can be like oh wow that awesome thing happened on March 25th? So cool! Step 5 is more of a training method for your brain to capture all the benefits of positive psychology and gratitude and create lasting physical brain changes. Hope that helps!
