This is a well detailed tutorial. Have been looking for this info for ages! But I also have a question. Maybe stupid, since I am new to Spoonflower. As the site itself has numerous buttons to make repeats, why do I need this Photoshop preparation? Thank you so much!

Hi🥰, How can I resize the pattern when it is already done? In case I want it in 3 different sizes, shoud I do all the pattern since the beginning with different scale?

I always get a light/white line on the edges of the tile, which is visible when I connect the tiles, expecially when I zoom out.

Thank you for this tutorial on pattern design! It is truly the simplest and most accurate video. This will help me on the next step I needed to design a seamless pattern on Spoonflower! I could not have done it without your help!!!! How about prepping art for Spoonflower? I watercolor florals and vector them on Adobe Illustrator is that necessary?
@spoonflower6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words, Marisol! We're so happy you found the tutorial helpful. You can scan/photograph your watercolors, send them to your computer, and then use Photoshop or Illustrator to prep the files just like in this video!

Question: where do you control the size of the elements, is that in photoshop or once you bring it to spoonflower, can you change if you want the main element to be 1 inch or 12 inches?
@spoonflower6 жыл бұрын
Hey Carol, you should adjust the size of the elements in Photoshop. Once each item is on a separate layer, select the item that you want to resize, and select the 'move' tool (the hotkey is v). This should bring up boxes around the edge of your element. Hold down the shift key and drag one of the corner boxes to resize the element while maintaining its proportions. You can use this same method to rotate and warp the element, as well!

You have buttons on the top menu to align an image in the centre, vertically, and horizontally, you don't need the rulers ;-) Also a resolution of 150 dpi is way too small for printing, especially when it's scaled onto larger items like wall murals or bedding.

Can I ask you that if I use watercolour brush on Photoshop that would be still nice on knit fabric or I need to make hand paint and scan it? Thank you. Noemi

Hey there - you can absolutely use a watercolor brush in Adobe Photoshop, as opposed to hand painting - many of our designers use Photoshop or Illustrator, exclusively. Go for it, and see what you can create! Once you have something you'd like to upload to Spoonflower, visit www.spoonflower.com/get_started/ to create an account and upload your work!

@@janinalungubasca8109 The short answer: yes, absolutely! Many of our designers use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, exclusively, instead of hand painting. See the below response for more details on how to get started!

Thank you! This is so helpful. May I ask....when pasting the layers into the new canvas for the repeat, they aren't showing with color. Any idea why?
@spoonflower6 жыл бұрын
Hey Courtney, I'm glad you found it useful. Regarding your question - it could be that your new canvas has a different color profile than your source canvas. Check to make sure the color profiles are the same (mine is set to RGB 8-bit, for example). If that isn't the answer, you might have an adjustment layer or blending mode on the original canvas that isn't present on the new canvas.

is 1200 big enough to upload for printing?
@spoonflower5 жыл бұрын
Hey there - if you mean 1200 pixels, that will definitely work for printing. The most important aspect is the DPI, or dots per inch (sometimes written as PPI, or pixels per inch). Here's a detailed explainer to get you started: support.spoonflower.com/hc/en-us/articles/204444610-How-big-should-my-image-be-

Hi... I thought 150 was too small too, but I have been doing 8 in by 8 in 150DPI for 2 years now... It does print very well. I am not sure WHY!!!???? Cause, you are right 300 DPI is the standard. Yes, I have ASKED... Spoonflower.. but the round and round getting answers... I give up!
