I used to listen in Ireland too! Reception was not great, normally better at night. This was late 70s and into 80s. Always like football on BBC radio and 5 Live did a pretty good job later on. Mike Ingham and Pat Murphy go back to the old Radio 2 days though Mike Ingham retired a few years ago.That and Radio Luxembourg for the music!

Great to hear voices of Larry Canning and George Bayley again. Used to listen in late 70s early 80s mainly to the football on Saturday afternoons. Peter Lorenzo was another of those long lost ghost voices from that time. Peter Jones and Bryon Butler were sublime. Alan Parry did some commentary too. Wonder does anyone have any Saturday afternoon football recordings from that period ie going around the grounds for match updates. Jones and Butler have a lot of big games on record but it would be nice to relive a typical Sport on Two Saturday afternoon and check in with all the long forgotten correspondents like Bill Bothwell, Ron Jones etc

Who was the commentator near the beginning where he was commentating on Bolton and he said ‘ which when will this championship go?’ I just love his enthusiasm! It might be cut glass BBC English but his enthusiasm takes some beating!

Wolves ended that season as 4th Division champions just after going close to bankruptcy and Bradford just 3 years after the fire that cost 55 lives and 5 years after going close to bankruptcy and Middlesbrough went into the play offs for promotion to Division 1 and the latter beat Chelsea in the final to win a third promotion on the trot having won promotion to Division 2 in 1986/87 from Division 3 after a close season where they nearly went out of business while Bradford were knocked out in the SF

In the 25th Anniversary Sports Report on January 6 1973 In today's Rugby Union International at Twickenham England were beaten 9-0 by New Zealand and in Football in Division One the top 5 Liverpool, Arsenal, Leeds, Derby and Ipswich all win 2nd place Arsenal beating bottom of the table Manchester United 3-1, top of the table Liverpool win 1-0 away at West Ham increasing the gap at the top of the table to 3 points Leeds beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 fourth place Ipswich beat Newcastle 1-0 and fifth place Derby County beat Norwich 1-0 Sheffield United beat West Bromwich Albion 3-0, Everton beat Stoke 2-1, Southampton beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 while Manchester City v Chelsea at Maine Road and Crystal Palace v Birmingham at Selhurst Park was postponed and in Division Two Sunderland beat Brighton 4-0 and Aston Villa beat Burnley 3-0 and some things were the same in the 25th anniversary in 1973 as the first edition and 40th anniversary edition England are nilled in a Rugby Union international against a southern hemisphere team Arsenal win as was in the first edition in 1948 and the 40th anniversary Liverpool top but the match v Derby was postponed while at the end of that season Chelsea would join Manchester City in Division 2
