Sportrack SR 1010 review and installation.

2012 Honda Accord universal roof racks installation and review.
I installed these universal roof racks so I can carry my new kayak. This installation was fairly easy,but instructions that came with were not exact. Well at the end,I managed to successfully install my new roof racks and made my first trip with kayak on them.
I highly recommend for you guys to install these universal roof racks,you will not be disappointed.

I've always thought these "universal fit" items should have a statement on the box saying "Fits most automobiles except yours".

The directions are not exact for my vehicle,I had to do my own adjustments. I used these roofracks all summer and so far my boat did not fly away :-)

Thank you for commenting, enjoy these roof racks. My advice is, if you carrying Kayaks on top, throw another safety strap around it and go on the inside of the car to tie it down.

I installed this on my 2012 civic last year for my 16.6 canoe. Couldn't install it properly when I followed the instructions so I installed it the way I think it's safe. easier that way. No issue

When I had those roof racks on my Accord,I also used ratchet straps to secure my kayak. I would go with the down ratchet straps on the inside of the car on long trips.

Michael Napiza these roof rack are awesome,very sturdy. Not much noise,I driven 65mph and it's totally acceptable level of noise,you won't hear it much. I'm actually kayaking now,awsome.

I always carry my 13.5 kayak with these roof racks. Just to be on safe side,secure straps through your car and make sure you get ratchet straps.

Great review! The website im on says the max weight shouldnt exceed 90 lbs, did you use more weight than that and if so howd it preform? And do you know what the length is? Thank you!

We had these a few years ago.. used them to hold our canoe as well as some bags stored underneath. They held up very well, but the rubber anti scratch rubbers will start to degrade pretty quickly

Nice! I'm gonna get one. Kind of sad the instructions would be better off just saying move front and back roof racks as far forward and backward as curve would allow.

Just put them on my honda fit. Works well, but fairly noisy after 20mph.

I don't know why everyone on the internet seems to not use the settings for your listed vehicle, they worked for me. Its necessary to get proper engagement of the hook under the door. Try loosening the hook part more than you think before trying to tighten in place. it will work. I imagine people complaining that these racks pop off don't use the proper settings. to be fair the instructions were pretty crappy

I bought one really cheap at canadian tire, then realized it was not the model for my car, returned it and got one that's supposed to fit for my car but like 2X more expensive... But I should have tried to install the first one since it seems the measures are not good anyways...

This one lasted me for a while, i had my kayaks on top for road trips. I had no issues with this brand.

I tried fitting mine to a 2016 Focus and the dimensions were off and frustrating. I'm hoping to have more luck after watching your video and adjusting them accordingly.

@@wesley6925 no, I tried and even took them in to a shop to be fitted and they didn't secure properly due to the curve in the roof. I returned them and just use foam blocks for my canoe now. Thule and Rhino Rack both have ones that fit better I hear.

Where do you get those instructions 🤔. Mine didn't come with anything. SR1010. For 2019 Toyota Corolla Sedan. I try to find the measurements to place it on but it keeps coming off. Am I doing it wrong? Am I too close to the front of the car is that why?

My package included manual with measurements. Yes you might be to far away on the slope of the pillar.

I loop it on the hook that latches the hood. Than i close my hood and its all good.

@@nazarettos6987 I like the way it looks, but it seems like it would just bend up your hood on both sides if the other straps (or rack) failed, and the front strap was called into duty. Or am I missing the purpose of the front strap? I'm still a novice when it comes to transporting kayaks on roofs.

SaysClanHD these are universal, Kia Optima is about same size as Accord. You should be perfectly fine if you buy it from Costco online,you can return without any problems.

You need to read the instructions. "A" is from door to the center of front roof rack. "B" is from center of front roof rack to center of rear roof rack. You got everything in that part wrong.

I’m glad someone else said this, I was looking for this comment because I knew it was on center from between the doors and then on center from front rack to rear. This comment should be higher and it’s scary how many people could be cruising around with out reading instructions properly.

Yes you can set them to 27 but it depends what make and model you have. For Accord my setup works great. Also tip for you, if you get these and planning to go on the highway with kayak on top or something like that, use extra tied down straps and go on the onside.

I think you misunderstood the installation instructions. First, distance B is not from the B pillar to the back rack. It's from the front rack to the back rack. Also, see how there is a notch cut into the rubber piece? That looks like it's there so that one half can go onto the top of the roof and the other can bend around the side slightly to prevent scratching from the metal bracket you tighten after. That might have been why it seemed the dimensions were off.

Also there will be a gap to begin with, but as you tighten the metal on the feet will bend to hug thecurvature of your car. I've just installed these on my 2013 civic using the exact instructions in the manual.

These roof racks are awsome,I'm carrying on top 13.5 feet kayak 80lb and no problems. If you are planning to carry something like a kayak just secure it well.

They sell these roof rack in Home Depot,you can buy them and try if they work for your vehicle G37 but I'm more than sure that they will fit.

I think these will work on any car,but just for extra safety measure put tie down straps on your kayaks.

@@nazarettos6987 the problem is: it looks good on the right side, but when I check the other side, it's not OK.. it looks solid, but the part is not 100% in the right position, it looks that when I tight the right side, the left is getting loose

The instructions were useless for mounting them on my 2102 Subaru Impreza. The numbers given for setting the width were hysterical, off by over 9 cm per side. The customer service people were unresponsive. A friend, who is a mechanical engineer, and I tossed the instructions and got them installed adequately, They wind noise is considerable over 55 MPH. My gas mileage goes down 20% when they are on, with no load on. I will have to take them off, when I'm not actively using them, the noise and lower gas mileage warrant that.

Sean Christie oh that sucks... my brother has a Impreza but it’s a little newer and it has these rails on the side of the car that you can pull off and reveal mounting points for a roof rack. That allows the price to be a lot cheaper and he ended up paying less than 200 to get that roof rack directly from Subaru. I have a 2012 legacy and it didn’t have the side rails so I have to get one of these

@@bradleyradziewicz14 yeah I have a 2017 wrx and when I bought it I never even really thought about a roof rack but I started looking last year and if I bought the modle up it has the mounting holes in the roof so it's only a few hundred but with the models like mine the only option at subaru is an expensive system that is made by Thule and it mounts exactly like the one in the video (the quality may be worth the extra cost i am really not sure)
