Jim Johnston is a legend. He gave everyone from main eventers to lower midcarders iconic theme songs. Not even CFO$ and especially Def Rebel can accomplish what Jim Johnston did for the WWE. It's a shame they fired him though.

EVERY song Jim made for each wrestler, fit the wrestler. He is one of a kind! 💯 the Attitude Era themes are 🐐 but he has nonstop hits like DX, Al Snow, The Nation, Stone Cold, The Rock, Batista, Evolution, Kane, Gangrel, Ministry of Darkness, Mankind, Chyna, T&A. What a time it was having Jim Johnston around!

They fired Jim because Jim held a small percentage of the royalties from each song he created for each wrestler so WWE was able to fire him and then hire CFO and then deaf rebel to make the music without any percentage of the royalty so WWE got to keep it all. That’s the reason they fired Jim not because he didn’t make great songs but because WWE didn’t own 100% of the songs, Jim Johnston own like 5% or something like that. (I don’t know the exact percentage that Jim held onto. I just know he held onto a small percentage of the royalties for each song.)

This guy did so much to the entire wrestling push in the late 80s in the Uk. Unstable, ultimate warrior, I play it regularly still. He’s one of the special ingredients to the recipe when it was at its best. He’s bigger to me than most of the wrestlers

Take with a grain of salt. From what I remember he was transitioned/“promoted” to Vince’s WWE FILMS division where he was supposed to be a “Hollywood” level music producer. Since he couldn’t do BOTH. They hired CFO$ to transition Johnston out. I believe there were some money disputes when WWE FILMS failed and Johnston was not paid properly and he and McMahon fought. I believe he was also told his “style” was old and tired. McMahon then tried to demote to being a consultant to CFO$. JJ refused and was let go. Bad blood ever since. Just based off what I remember from dirt sheets, and WWE website promoting JJ as music producer for WWE FILMS.

@KerryRasch that makes sense. I'm a very casual follower these days. I tried to hang around after the ruthless aggression era emeded, but it was too boring. The biggest difference I notice when I do watch is the themes are so uninspiring and don't really fit the characters now. They also aren't memorable anymore. I remember I used to want to lookup themes online because they were so good.

I’m pretty sure they fired him and brought CFO in because of every entrance song that Jim Johnston made he held a certain small percentage of the royalties and WWE didn’t want him to have a percentage of each song anymore, which is probably why they tried to transition him to WWE films and then and ended up firing him because when they brought CFO and CFO agreed to make music for a set price with no royalties so WWE could hold 100% of the royalties for each song after Jim was fired

For the record, rumor is that the head of WWE Music, Neal Lawi, pushed JJ out. Because of his long tenure and rapport with Vince, JJ was paid VERY handsomely, which didn’t sit well with some people. Then around the same time, WWE made some heavy budget cuts, which also affected the music department. I’ve heard that CFO$ complained about WWE nickel-and-diming everything, leading to the lesser-quality music that persists today under def rebel. However, def rebel’s contract will reportedly not be renewed, so I’m hoping the next chapter will see an entrance music renaissance under Triple H.

He's the best to ever do it! He's behind so many iconic themes, and such a huge part of millions of childhoods. The way he was able to capture the character's personality in the theme music he created was impeccable. WWE's music since he left absolutely is 🗑. But sadly, that's par for the course, because WWE is complete 💩 in general these days. And it has been for a long time. We will never be able to capture and recreate the heyday of past times. And Jim Johnston was such an key component in that past success. Thank You Sir for all your work and for the memories. He should be in the Hall of Fame. Point...Blank...Period, no questions asked❗️

No... Jim Johnston IS the greatest forget all those movie themes ect... Jim was and is a genius... the music he made was different from ANYTHING that has ever been made and remember most of the themes didn't even have any vocals at all. He was my childhood hell the very first 2 albums i ever bought were WWF the music vol 3 and 4 then i bought every other one after that. He is very unappreciated and should never have been treated that way... sure the new guys that took over have made a few good themes but they can not compare to Jim... they are bland, boring and have no heart or individuality to them 🤷🏻‍♂️ Jim is one in a million
