My parents bought me my first road hockey net when I was 4 years old. It came with a poster of Mike Bossy that I had on my wall. Special place in my heart!

this one hurt...my first sports idol as a 6 year old in 1980 after my family arrived on long island...one of the most productive athletes ever in any sport when you compare years played to accomplishments.. RIP and thank you Mike

Without a doubt. I am a big Wayne Gretzky fan, and I honestly believe had Mike Bossy played another ten or so years Wayne would have been chasing him for the all time goal lead. Guaranteed Bossy would have had at least 8 more 50+ goal seasons. RIP Mike

@@PenguinGang25 It isn't a Joke. Guy Lafleur smoked at least one pack of cigarettes a day and he died from Lung Cancer too. Bossy and Lafleur should have made anti-smoking ads before they died. It would save lives by motivating people to quit and to prevent people from starting to smoke.

All fans and all management personnel of the teams that passed on Bossy in his draft year never stopped kicking themselves with regret. A nine-time 50 goal scorer he should have been the number one pick that year. As a hockey player he was a winner.

@@jeffmccoy1700 I thank God the Islanders got him. Not because I was an Isles fan (which I was). It was because it allowed him to flourish with Trottier and Gilles, and to win. Others may have scored more goals, but no one scored them like Mike Bossy.

Was about 7 or 8 when I started watching and loving hockey. Mike Bossy was my favourite player. Idolized him. My older brother and I playing road hockey would pretend to be Trottier and Bossy. RIP, sniper.

I was at this game. My dad grew up in Long Beach NY. He was growing up as the Islanders were going through the struggles of being an expansion team and he was a teenager when the Islanders had their 1980’s dynasty. He wore #22 when he played deck hockey. He loved Bossy.

Went to the game tonight. While there were a lot of # 22 jerseys in attendance - much of the crowd was too young to have seen him play. He was fabulous. Lots of fans left Flowers at his plaque at the NYI Hall of Fame in the UBS Arena. So sad!

I'll never forget Bryan Trottier saying exactly this. All he had to do was know Bossy was on the ice and there was a good chance they'd score.

For me, Mike Bossy, similar to Bobby Orr, is one of hockey's most talented icons whose career was cut short, and also one of the most humble and gracious players around. As a Ranger fan raised to hate the Islanders, it was awfully hard not to be a huge fan of Mike Bossy. RIP

I was an big time Oilers fan growing up in Scarborough, ON during the 80’s. I’ll never forget meeting Mike Bossy at a Kmart while he was signing autographs promoting Titan hockey sticks. He was such a nice man. I had a soft spot for the Islanders after that day. RIP

As a kid who grew up on Long Island during those dynasty years this year has been gut wrenching, from the team on the Ice to losing Clarke, Jean and now Mike, it’s just too much. R.I.P. Mike, you will be very missed.

My first NHL game was the Islanders vs the Jets in Dec.3 1982 in Winnipeg. Bossy was always a fav of mine and I begged my parents to take me to the Wpg Arena to see them

Back in the day, my home team in Pittsburgh was usually blacked-out from local broadcasts. So I became an Islanders and Rangers fan courtesy of super station WOR. Bossey (and Trots)was a huge reason I became a life-long hockey fan. Amazing skills and a class act, a combination not always found together. Bossey was it with plenty to spare in both.

Bossy's family held an open to the public service at a funeral home this past week in Ste Therese. Literally 15 minutes away from my home in Laval. I wish I had known. I would have gone to pay my respects.

What's the difference between a 60 Goal Scorer and a 60 Goal Pure Goal Scorer?

Well the difference is no winger ever accomplished 60 or more goals 5 times during a short time of his career. 9 years to be exact and during the nine years he had 60 goals three years in a row. The only player accomplished that peak was Wayne Gretzky

Phil Esposito scored 70+ goals one year & 60+ goals 3 seasons & many of his were called "garbage goals" as he stood in the slot taking a beating & knocked in rebounds for his goals. Bossy on the other hand was a "pure goal scorer" cuz he had the fastest snap shot & scored when taking one timer's from passes or on a rush. Almost zero rebound goals scored by Bossy. Boom!!! @@gestet My dad told me about Esposito. He said Esposito got most of his goals by standing near the crease area and waiting for Bobbie Orr to give Him a pass. Scored his 76 Goals on 550 Shots. Gretzky 92 in only 327 Shots.

I was a young hockey player in Michigan. My first recollection of the NHL was the Islanders winning the Stanley cup. The Red Wings were god awful. The Islanders were my favorite team to root for, and Mike was, is and always will be my favorite player. My heart goes out to his friends and family.

I never saw him playing live, but with the goalscoring average and ability he had, without injuries, he would do stuff that we are seeing Ovechkin doing now. And IMHO, he would be the first NHL player to hit 1000 goals

My Favorite...he scored all those guys in a division where it was more of a hard checking style of play compared to the west style open ice...and the team never got attention for what they did...they can play any style of hockey...check..fight....score...and were great at it...very special teams...RIP

My favorite player of all, since I first saw him his rookie season. No one.....NO ONE could score goals like him. I started using eBay in 1998. Since day one, my eBay ID has been "bossy22islanders." My heart is broken. Only Pop's death broke it more. I pray to God that I will never forget Mike Bossy. The GOAT of goal scorers!
