Three first round playoff losses is unacceptable, Shanahan has to do what Masai Ujiri did and fire the coach. This playoff loss is on Babcock, no adjustments, special teams ineffective, stubborn not giving ice time to your best players.

Andrew Irwin nice spin but you are full of crap. Here's another fun fact for you: John Tavares 47g 41a 11mil 7 seasons Bozak and JVR combined 40g 46a 12 mil combined for three seasons plus two more for JVR at 7 per. I love Tavares but it was a sideways move with cap pressure going forward that you didn't really have had you signed the two guys above for shorter term deals that could have been bought out sooner. Plus you bring in JT who is your captain? Till he got here it was 34 hands down. Now what? Then there's 43. Remember his comments comparing himself to JT? That was big news around here. Now they're teammates. LoL. Remember when Kadri was scoring 30 plus? 44 points total this season. And suspended again for playoffs. Ha ha. My point: the Leafs routinely mismanage their people. Now they have a mess cap wise. What to do? Hope Dubas is as smart as they say...

Players hate playing for this guy. They did in Detroit. Zetterberg did, nyquist did, couple others I can't remember.. Edit Chelios hated him, Commodore hated him. This is all verifiable.. Larkin said the only reason he left NCAA was because Babcock was gone. And these are only some guys that said it publicly. Also news stories of players not wanting to come play in Detroit because of Babcoxk. Toronto needs him gone.

Montreal Canadiens' players in the 1970's hated playing for Scotty Bowman. He didn't play favorites, whether you were a 16-20 year vet like Henri Richard, or a young player like Steve Shutt. But they respected him, and he delivered results: 5 Stanley Cups in 8 seasons. A number of very good coaches (Pat Riley, Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, etc.) are not loved by their players. Do the Leaf players respect Babcock? Granted, you cannot talk to and treat players in 2019 like Bowman did to his players in the 1970's. Scotty adjusted over the years.

This is the problem with the leafs right here. If the leafs played their top lines more like boston, washington and some other teams do, they wouldve had a much better shot at the series. The Leafs actually were more prepared for the series than it seemed they would be considering the weak last 20 games they played. However, Babcock was out-coached, by line matching, special teams, set breakouts and faceoffs. The are a top 10 team, but need A. A stonger face off man. B. Gritty checking line that can kill penalties and score once and a while. C. Horse D, defensive and mobile, strong in the slot and on breakouts, and can put up minutes. They have an abundance of young talent they can trade for such upgrades...like Nylander, who can still fetch a good price on the market. Keep Kappy, Johnsson, and Gauthier. But Nylander, Brown, Ennis, Muzzin, Zaitsev, Hyman and Sparks can all go towards acquiring upgrades.

Disappointing outcome. There's no need to do an entire team overhaul, although there are a few pieces that need to be moved around for sure. People calling for the firing of Babcock have no idea what they're talking about. Yes, he might not have played Matthews enough. yes, he might have pulled the goalie a little too early. But, whos gonna replace him? He's the best available option at the moment. Some pieces I think should be looked into moving Zaitsev - horrible contract Marleau - Love him, he's too old. Kadri? - He just doesn't fit anymore it seems Brown - He's a good gritty player but he's been an anchor on every line this year

Are you for real,, I wouldn't be surprised if the Leafs miss next year anyways. Buffalo is a half descent goalie away from making it next year. The Habs where just at the door step and with Quinnville the Panthers are quarenteed to make it. The Bruins and lightning not missing either. So Toronto is going to be hard pressed to make it next year and years after. Don't forget Detroit will be a contender in a couple of years with Yazerman running the show. The Atlantic is alot more stronger then the metropolitan, it's going to be congested alot. Kind of what the Bluejays dealt with for years with Boston, New York, and Baltimore. Why do you think Dubas and co was counting on this year so much. They know there window is smaller that they are letting on. There is two much parity in the league and things change year to year. Not the pre 90s anymore where teams where uncontested juggernauts for years or decades making it into playoffs year after year. With all the low seeds eliminating the top dogs this was Toronto's chance to go far in the playoffs even a final appearance. But leafs lazy play for 2 thirds of the series a d Babs poor stubborn decision making just gave it away. They packed it in which is very frustrating and aggravating.

It’s time to fire Babcock. His coaching record is simply not that great. He’s the highest paid coach in the league. He favours older less effective players. Power play decisions are brutal playing his best players half the time of the best opposition players. Plays His best player 18 minutes a game while the opposition plays theirs 22 minutes. Speaks in general terms “ dig, play hard, get a goal” WTF? Blames his players for the loss taking zero responsibility for his poor decisions. Argues publicly with his assistant coach and his General Manager. “We need better players”Brutal.

I love all the Matthews Fanboys here. Watch the tape of all of his shifts. The reason that he and Babcock don't get along is that Matthews just doesn't play hard shift after shift and game after game. He lacks serious compete far too often during games. For example....the first Boston goal in game 7. He is immensely talented and the frustrating part is that he doesn't combine that talent with a desire to compete every game and every shift. It's not about playing time. It's about compete and effort.

Babcock says they "played good" in game 7. Let me compare this to when Larry Robinson was the coach of the NJ Devils. I remember this very well, the Leafs were playing the Devils in the semis (in the year 2000). Leafs won game 1, by a goal, but the Devils had badly outshot them that game and had the territorial edge. I will never forget what Larry Robinson said after that game. He refused to say his team "played good" even though the reporters were encouraging him to say that. Instead, Robinson got angry and said his team didn't play well enough, and they should be angry that they didn't play harder. They went on to win game two and the series in six. I prefer Robinson's approach.

Just firing pucks in the vicinity of the net and hoping for a lucky bonce and rebound to knock in is a risky strategy. Some go in some don't and when they don't ya lose if that's the main strategy. That's exactly how I see it too. The strategy seem to be everyone rushing at the puck, hacking away at it blindly, hoping for a lucky bounce. He's supposed to be "one of the best", classy, coaches yet he left the post-game conference abruptly after answering a question he didn't like, and in this press conference he doesn't take any accountability. Still this "growth" he mentions heading in to year 5 of him coaching the team. Time for the team to progress; this team deserves better. And, though for different reasons, the GM ...if you're serious about winning a Cup ...needs to go. It takes time to build reputations as a GM and he's done, specifically in terms of impactful deals, virtually nothing (and a hometown signing of Tavares would have been done with any GM, as Tavares pretty much spells out). Dubas is a great guy, but nowhere near the GM the Leafs NEED him to be.

I knew when we got Babcock that he would bring structure and get us to the playoffs with limited skill and depth quickly, just as he did for years with Detroit. But here is why he needs to go imo...his stubborn nature, big ego and his system only works when he has the inferior skilled team..you know, plug away and stick to the regiment and presto!! "hey, we're doing pretty good for a bunch of pluggers"!!!The Leafs skill, speed and depth are superior to most if not all teams in the league (at least up front). he doesn't have the system or the demeanor to maximize it. Perhaps you may have noticed a few things this series (and in the last half of the season)that give credence to this....1. robotically trying to line match, when we had the superior depth...unacceptable!! ..that should have been the challenge for Boston..Let them chase the matchups and lose flow in the process..2.deploying a "blow the zone" or "stretch pass" offence in game 7 which put us down 2 very quickly... unacceptable. That is lazy hockey..that is what we would play in a beer league tournament on a Saturday afternoon when we drank too much on the Friday night...you'll never ...ever win with that. 3. Not activating Morgan Reilly (who was a threat every time he joined the offence)..he only let him loose when we were down in the 3rd period of games..If he's only averaging 24 minutes he can be in offensive beast mode the whole game...(it's only when you're playing 30mins, that you have to pick your spots...(Note every team activating their D in the 2nd round).... again, unacceptable..4: and the one that really exposes his inability to adapt and reign in his need to be "the difference maker"...In game 7, Mathews (who I think had 5 goals in 4 games leading up ) had only 16mins of ice with only 4 mins left in the game that was by then out of reach...that can NEVER, EVER happen.. a threat to break a game open every time he's on the ice and he's on he bench...UNACCEPTABLE, imo.

Making the playoff every season instead of once every ten years. That's not an improvement, get rid of the bum. I'd rather go back to making the playoffs once every ten years. Let's fire and trade everyone again, and ruin a great team.

Babcock, I’ll speak for you my bro. Our top players especially marner was making fancy dancy plays. The give a ways and waiting for the puck to come to you cause you can’t play the corners isn’t playoff hockey. Babcock played the guys who can play the rough hard Player wearing systems that coaches play to try win a series.

i dont know...was ready to give up on the leafs after another game 7 loss, cuz i had enough of it already; grew up in t.o, die hard fan for a long time, and i am just fed up with it as im sure all leafs fans are by now. but amidst all my frustration and anger, i kept thinking, irionically, bout the boston red sox, and how it took em 86 years to get back to greatness, loll. so we're not at that number yet, and even though we said "this is the year", i get the sense that our young core is really getting more experience and hating these game 7 losses as much as we do, so we really could break thru next year (seriously...) sounds like it from babs now anyway. and ya, we need to add more depth AND GRIT. thats the main thing - GRIT. need a couple bangers to balance out the danglers. 2 more matt martin's on offense, and a couple more muzzins on d, and we're there. trade nylander, gardner and zaitsev to make it happen. go leafs go.
