Nothing new. We see this every playoff with valuable minutes given to 34 and 16 together and they did nothing. 16 was a nobody back in his early years until he was put to play together with 91. 34 cannot pass and doesn't have the IQ to back up 16 like 91 does. We repeatedly seeing this for years when opposing teams took 16 and 34 out by putting pressure on 16. 34 cannot generate anything on his own. So much for the 1st line that Leafs management kept thinking. Was hoping Berube would see that and not making the same mistake as Keefe, but look like Leafs will go down the same path as the past years.

Now that is what I call DUBAS MAGIC! Blake Lizotte is Mr. Kyle Dubas GM and President's best signing. Lizotte hounding Tavares for the puck before the goal is DUBAS MAGIC! What a trade by GM Mr. Kyle Dubas of Jake Guentzel for Michael Bunting. As the puck went to Bunting to the back of the goal for the game winner all I could think of is DUBAS MAGIC! Sidney Crosby's assist tied Gordie Howe for 5th all time with one franchise. Remember when Mr. Dubas signed Sid to another 2 year deal. The 2 year 87 deal is oozing of DUBAS MAGIC! In conclusion Rakell's opening goal was assisted by Kyle Dubas UFA signing Grzelcyk and trade Kevin Hayes. DUBAS MAGIC owned the Leafs tonight. another poor effort by the leafs. Pittsburg wanted the win much more than the leafs. It really showed. I've never seen an empty net goal scored against with a 6 on 4 advantage (twice scored upon) . Really poor power play on exhibit !

Leafs have been dysfunctional since the start of the season and apart from a handful of games, they've been playing badly even though they've won their fair share of them because the opponent was worse, or the core four went superhero mode. Special teams have been bad, bottom six contributes nothing to offense, and the energy they gave the team in the first few games has seemed to have petered out. Berube's lines are sometimes baffling as well. The bright spot on this team is the outstanding goaltending tandem and the responsible 5v5 defense, even if they're not perfect. And of course the core four are good when they feel like it or aren't shut down by being smothered like Washington did to them the other night. The Leafs will continue to win more than they lose but they need to get their act together if they want to go more than one round in the playoffs.

My thoughts nearly exactly. This team is at least more watchable than any team under Keefe, but yeah, core 4’s viability is inconsistent, we heavily lack depth especially in the bottom six, injuries don’t help matters. Special teams are just as wonky as they were towards the end of last year. This team is as frustrating as they’ll always be and we should just accept that honestly.

I've been saying this for years. Raptors made the hard decision when traded their delusional fans favourite DeMar DeRozan for Kawhi Leonard, but it resulted in their first championship.
