Like I said elsewhere, Olivier is underrated. He did well against Lucic though I thought Looch landed the harder shots. You don't see Olivier the clear loser very often. I think the news is not so much how Rempe looked versus Olivier (he did okay but the experienced guy won) but how Rempe looked versus Deslauriers (Rempe did great against one of the top guys IMO). Rempe is pretty wide open like Rechlicz. But that's what makes him more fun than the duck-and-chuck guys. Dangerous way to do the job.

well i mean.. you said it yourself, he is a rookie. whose the last rookie you've seen that was just phenomenal in nearly every aspect of the sport? Sidney Crosby? newsflash, guys like Crosby are incredibly rare. 99.9% of rookies are going to play like rookies and need a few seasons to find their strengths and strengthen their weaknesses. kid is making $995k a year, only 20 games left in the season right now.. would literally take nothing for him to take some boxing lessons at expensive gyms in his off season and come back a much better fighter, at the same time practice up his weak areas on the ice. Rempe's had like 5 games in the NHL so far, he has made 20 hits, 1 goal, has had 4 fights and 20:01 of ice time in his last 5 games. id say that's pretty damn good for a rookie enforcer. kid has tons of potential, ive also seen him doing his part for his team quite well. he gets across the ice fast when his team has the puck, he parks himself right in front of the goalie and makes himself big, providing perfect goalie screens which allows for much easier goals for the rangers. it's how he got his first goal of the season with a deflection off his skate, straight through the goalies legs and scoring. if you ask me, i think the kids going to be a star which is rare for an enforcer but in todays league where that's more of a thing of the past, it's a breath of fresh air and the fans around the NHL are going crazy for guys like him right now. shows what a difference physicality can make when theyve won the previous 10 games before facing the blue jackets. low and behold the blues come out with top notch physicality of their own and beat out the rangers both in physicality and scoring. coincidence? definitely not. blues said they were doing their homework on the rangers, they definitely did. they picked up on how physical they've been playing and have decided to match that pace and look at that... they came away with the win. it's almost like skating fast and good puck skills arent the only important things in hockey anymore 😮😮😮😮😮

the size of rempe is his biggest advantage but also his greatest threat, because his opponents can‘t try to play a tactical game hiding their heads and turning. they have to dish out old school to survive.
@DneilB007
@DneilB007 2 ай бұрын
It’s his biggest vulnerability, too, as Olivier showed last night. If you have a big reach advantage, you can’t let your opponent get inside, because you don’t have the leverage to throw your best haymaker. Your punches will hit behind the ears, and the curve of the head (or helmet, if it says on) will deflect the blow away. The kid’s a good fighter and he’s making a name for himself. He needs to learn a few lessons like this one. If he watches the game footage and pays attention to what Olivier is doing, then he might be able to be here for a while.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how tough this sport is in reality if you compare it to other disciplines. You have soccer where players dive as if they got shot by a sniper, meanwhile you have hockey players casually taking out broken tooth, walking on broke bones, getting back after cusonssion... Incredible stuff.

There are no more enforcers in the NHL. He may be able to fight, but that won't keep him in the NHL. His skill set will dictate if he sticks around. At 1-1-1, the jury is still out on this guy anyway. If he keeps taking punches to the head the way he has in his first 4 games, he'll retire early due to too many concussions.

The hype around Rempe is what is making every game a test for him. The kid is probably a willing participant as has been shown but, he's got more skill than just being the Rangers heavyweight. He's shown he can handle himself pretty well, all tough guys get their fair share of losses and this was Rempe's, maybe now he can get down to playing the game and a good scrap will be secondary going forward.
