Domination at its finest. And Auston Matthews is breaking records here. First 6 hat trick season since Super Mario, and I believe first for multiple back-to-back hat tricks in a season since Gretzky.

I struggle, yes I admit it, I struggle a little bit in giving Auston the same level of respect as guys like Mario, Jagr, Fedorov etc. I feel like (and i'm open to debate) those guys did it with so much "flair" that I guess it overshadows Auston's own brand of "flair" that has a bit more of a workman's sense to it. Those men were Gods. Maybe Auston will change my mind over time; but Forsberg? And who I think is the next to enter that "level of hockey adoration" (Overchkin, and sure throw Sid in there too why not). Can I see him "like that"? I root for him still as a Leaf fan but for me, something's missing ... just a little.

I said it earlier in the season but Matthews has set up his office on that right side similarly to how Ovechkin did it all these years. Only the sides are flipped. And similarly to Ovechkin everyone knows that onetimer is coming but it still keeps beating goalies.

It’s a literal night and day difference when the whole team plays well together, opposed to everything going through the core 4. Like the core 4 only averaged like 15-16 minutes the entire game opposed to there normal 21 plus minutes

The biggest thing I notice about this is Knies beauty of a pass on Matthews 1st of the game . Then 2nd goal McMann just absolutely snipes one . The last goal of the game Robertson just has a filthy release . In short the young AHL call-ups ( well aside from McMann he's actually 27 ) are great depth forwards who can really help when the core 4 isn't on ( luckily it appears they are though as well ) . But depth is key when your stars go through a rut .

That was incredible! 6th hatty this season for Matthews, 3rd hat trick in a row for the Leafs, 500 career points for Nylander, and enough top-notch teamwork that pretty much everybody had goals, shots, assists, or all three. What a showing; so glad I watched last night. Gotta wait til my household wakes up to watch Dangle's take on it, though, so I'll have to settle for SN's coverage for now 😂 Go Leafs! 🍁💙

I'm just gonna put something out there, and if people read and agree, then great: I think Sheldon has a tremendous opportunity to get Bertuzzi going, and it has to happen now. He's the 6th highest paid player on the team and he has 6 goals? We know he's a grinder, we know he can put pucks in the net, and after breaking his 'curse' last night, now's the perfect time to get this kid rolling. So my argument is to put Bertuzzi on the power-play instead of Tavares. Simple as that. Make it 'semi-permanent', by giving Bertuzzi a chance and keeping this PP1 a thing for at least 3-5 games. Bertuzzzi is meant for power-play hockey. However, there could even be an argument made for setting up 2 power-play units, but it's harder to make that argument today after such great PP performances last night. But, if you wanted to? PP 1) Marner, Matthews, Robertson, Bertuzzi, Reilly (obv Reilly when back) PP 2) Nylander, Tavares, Domi, Knies, Liljegren/McCabe. Two strong power-plays for a team needing to make a playoffs push, and the only reason I mention this is because there have been long periods where the core 4 (core 5, really) weren't getting it done. Why not try something new, especially when things aren't working?

Remember when Morgan Reilly first got suspended everyone assumed the Leafs would fold and go 0-5. Instead the Leafs are making everyone look like idiots and clowns for assuming they wouldn't even compete without Morgan Reilly. Leafs have already exceeded expectations by going 3-0 instead of going 0-5. Leafs have shown at least in the short term, they can win without Morgan Reilly.
