Tocchet is such a unique coach for the Canucks. When he dropped in last year he seemed completely oblivious to the Vancouver Canucks, their history, and their current situation. The benefit of that is he got to start completely fresh with the team and institute his own system. It's showing some fruit.

I hated the way the organization treated Bruce and I didn't care much for Rick, and wondered what his loosing coaching record would do for the Canucks. I'm so glad for how it's turned out so far. I really wish the coaches and players are allowed to speak out about the awful officiating. How does the league allow off side challenges due to refs making mistakes and not seeing things, yet there isn't a coaches challenge on missed penalty calls that lead to goals??? There is no argument to be made that refs can't see everything, so there SHOULD be a backup plan in case that happens, let Tocchet challenge that trip on Petttersson and take that goal away...what a brutal way to end a good game...just completely ruined it.

preface: i'm a canucks fan and i thought the missed call was also pretty bad but look, calls sometimes go your way, sometimes it doesn't. what use is it for a coach to sit there after every loss complaining about something they can't control? time could be put towards reviewing our poor special teams showing, taking a too many men call because pettersson skated too slowly back to the bench, etc. end of the day, even if coaches can call out the officiating, it's just not very productive and sets a bad precedent in the locker room to always put blame elsewhere.

@jasoncheng2735 drastically disagree. It's about holding the NHL to fair officiating and calling out their bad job to hold a higher standard. If it gets exposed enough the league would put more effort into making sure the game is being called more fairly...as in giving the coaches a coaches challenge on missed penalties that lead to goals just like they can for offsides.

Give the coach another 2 seasons and that should be when they are at their best. A coach always needs time to get rid of players he doesn't trust as well as being able to bring in the players he has faith in. The positive is that the Canucks appear to have improved significantly from last season.
