@@hockeyfan7100 Depth up front, better than average blueline and a great goalie. You have to be very good to make the finals in today's game. Remember they won the President's Trophy last year. Regular season success has very little to do with playoff success. The Leafs, Aves and Bruins are living proof of that this year.

You just need to sign a two way center who can elevate marner like a Cirelli or a Nick Paul type. Make Rielly the Captain. Id talk to JT and pitch him on the sunbelt as a good retirement destination + a cup. Hire Laviolette asap.

Will this core 4 still play well enough - for Leafs to still have good regular seasons? It is unfair to expect Marner to play well with playoff style officiating in any case. The main point for Leafs fans is: Treliving’s teams most often don’t make the playoffs.

Sheldon needs to be fired. These guys aren't "kids" anymore. They need a seasoned coach that will get the best out of them. Honestly, Joel Quenville would be ideal or even Peter Laviolette. One of the core 4 have to go. Marnier would be my choice as (a) Mathews is too valuable (b) John T can't be moved and (c) Nylander is too valuable and has nothing but upside AND has been the only one to consistently show up in the playoffs year after year. After that he needs to look at the D core.

Here's a question, if a dumbass hockey nut like me can make the call last NOVEMBER the Leafs would flounder in the playoffs AGAIN, Fancy-Stat Dubas would be gone, Country Club Mathews would be traded but ShanaPLAN Shanahan would stay...what does it say for those who are supposed to be the Gurus? Exactly how is Shanahan being being measured...he's been there 9 years. Can the ever brilliant Friedman explain it to us...can he detail what the "ShanaPLAN" was all about? IF anyone was honest abd paid attention, it was predictable. Oh, Mitch Marner, like tye regular season led the Team in Scoring. He was 2nd on the Team in TOI and is the Team's best penalty killer. Mitch was 3rd in Plus/Minus and he owns the puck when he's on the ice. So, go ahead and sign Country Club Mathews; you can make him even richer but you can't give him heart and passion. Outside Schen and Reilly, the D was awful. And...where is the secondary scoring? This is the sum total of the much celebrated "SHANAPLAN" and hot damn, the Hogtown media ate it up. The chances of Mathews signing is already in jeopardy with the loss of Dubas, you get rid of Keefe and Mathews is gone after this year!! Shanahan should have thought about this before letting Dubas go!!
