I am big critic of government of India but 18% GST on sale of second hand car is misunderstood by the Indian Citizens. Analysis of the same: 18% GST Will be leviable by only dealers dealing in second hand goods. For eg: A dealer purchased car from Vikrant Sir for Rs. 5,00,000 and subsequent sale it to other person for Rs. 6,00,000. Then GST will be leviable on 1 lakh i.e, 18000 and that too in the hands of dealer and not on Vikrant Sir in this example. Secondly, this was 12% before this notification. It was never exempted Lastly, it has no relevance with un registered persons selling their second hand car. If Vikrant sir purchase car for 20 lakhs and sale it for 5 lakhs after 7 years..No GST has to be paid. I don’t see anything wrong with this decision of the government.
