In my view, KL Rahul should continue to open in this series. He takes away the shine of the new ball. Other batters need to step up. The first 10-15 overs would be a challenging period. In MCG, the ball loses the shine quickly. Also, both in MCG & SCG, the game moves little slowly when compared to other venues in Australia

Shashwat is so loud and argumentative for absolutely NOTHING. He has 0 analytical aptitude and his reading of the game is pedestrian at best. To top that, he's a terrible listener, tremendously insecure, and lacks any critical thinking ability whatsoever. Furthermore, his command over the English language is poor - he's often found struggling to string sentences together, repeating words and phrases and just sounding like a bumbling buffoon on the whole. Sure, he's the youngest of the lot, but to what extent are you going to make concessions for his age? Aren't you a professional set up? Don't you have annual reviews/ appraisals? What has this guy's trajectory looked like so far? To me, it's the sheer arrogance and unwillingness to learn that is the most bothersome bit. As a viewer, he's just plain irritating to watch and hear.

Sorry to differ.. Nitish at 6 is miles ahead of gill the same way that gill at 3 is miles ahead of NKR at 3.. Positions demand mental models.. IF 6 is the only slot available it is faar better to play both NKR and sundar at 7,8 and play jaddu at 6 who is good enough for 6

I agree with shashwat, Nikhil bhai, you are assuming that playing at 6 is easier than opening just because the ball is older. But if we look at the times when Rohit came to bat in this series, it's always a top order collapse and our score is still under 80 or 70. Then the only role that is there to play for Rohit is to not take any risk, trust your defense and since he is the captain he can't play irresponsibly like pant or Nitish. This is too much for someone who is struggling to get back to form. In this context opening is much easier to play for someone like Rohit who is comfortable playing freely against the new ball. Even if he gets 30 or 40 quick runs, it's more than enough for the team at the moment. And for Rahul, he is giving the most assured and calming feeling like Dravid and Pujara. I think first down is the perfect spot for him...

Actually in Australia, the opener’s job is not to get 30-40 quick runs but to try and bat till 30 overs so that the attacking middle order batters can come in when the ball is soft and old, if the opener is not able to do that then no use of him

Since Rohit is the captain and he is going to be there in the playing 11, it's much better for him to open and score 30 or 40 runs...... And when we talk about making the ball old, it's not the sole responsibility of the opener alone, it's actually the responsibility of the top order which includes openers and the one down to play the new ball down. But there is also one more responsibility of the opener you are forgetting, it is to put pressure back on the opening bowlers so they go out of their line and length that's what sewag, warner etc did. Rohit also did this very well for some time in India. So this is the best case scenario for us at the moment. It's not practical to expect Rohit to do what he did in England in the past. In this era of low scoring test matches 30 runs is also very crucial.
