One thing you didn't seem to realize is that you're playing with electricity, but you're also washing or wetting your hands and the welded metal loop.

You did not get electrocuted. The voltage is way too low anyway for that. You just pinched the 2 materials right below your fingers, which made contact. You basically burned your fingers, not electrocuted

My friend electric chair kills with two joules.
@ginnis_14
@ginnis_14 3 жыл бұрын
@@taranta 2 joules is not the correct way to measure an electric chair since it is continuous power. The joules would basically be unlimited because that power could be provided indefinitely. You would use joules or measure a capacitor because you can plug in how fast that energy is released. In order to receive a shock you have to touch something with enough volts to overcome the high resistance of your body. Using ohms law, V=IR, using 10v for the average spot welder, and using 10k ohms for body resistance, only 1mA will flow, and according to this chart, www.asc.ohio-state.edu/physics/p616/safety/fatal_current.gif it is barely even perceivable. Using the upper range of spot welders, 35v there is 3.5mA, still too low to get a shock.

NEVER weld zinc plated steel without FIRST removing the plating. If that white stuff on the end of your electrodes gets in your lungs, not reading the instructions will be the LEAST of you problems.

☠️Steve K…you are correct regarding the zinc oxide formed when welding zinc plated steel. It is not good to breathe but the dangers are overblown. Your body needs trace amounts of zinc for a healthy immune system. The real danger is from the cadmium that often contaminates the galvanized metal. It burns to a yellow powder and that is the stuff that will harm you.

No electrocution, just burned because the weld happened between your fingers instead of between the points.

concerns first - the arc from the screen to your thumb looked like 120v. Is your electrical outlet wired bad or is the device faulty internally. Thank you for interesting post as many of us plan to get a cheap spot welder.

You cannot get electrocuted by a spot welder working voltage, just like you don't get electrocuted when touching a 9v battery or a car battery. The fact that the welder can output huge currents isn't relevant because the potential (voltage) is what determines the amount of possible current to flow through a conductor (that includes a human body). You start "feeling" AC voltage around 60-80v and that's when you conduct less than 1mA (because you cannot conduct more in that voltage, you are a resistor). Spot welders work around 24v and less, more to that - AC spot welders has an isolated secondary in the transformer - the output voltage is not in relation to earth ground, you cannot short HV to ground on the output (the device is internally grounded so even if the insulation on the primary is defective, it would trip a breaker). This video is a clown show.
@taranta

I wasn't going to answer you because I don't like disrespect, but I'm going to answer. If you saw the video, you saw what happened, do not write without having seen the video and if you saw it, before answering, look online for sources that report on the basis and do not read from anyone. The browser looks for the answer that you want to see. That happened to me and it is in the video, 2 amp is enough to electrocuted. I looked for this on a government page and here it is: Completion of Circuit through the Body If a person touches a live conductor, current may flow through the body to the ground and cause a shock. A person may get an electric shock hazard if incidentally the hands or other part of the body create a bridge between the welding supply (e.g. the live welding electrode) and the welding return (e.g., workpiece) of the welding circuit/equipment. Increased electrical contact with the ground increases the risk of shock.
