Honestly, shouldn't have been there to begin with. Podcasts can be hosted anywhere, it's just a long audio file. It's also public broadcast, so it's produced with tax payer money. So only fair if it's on a free public platform, where they don't have to factor in costs for uploading, and splitting earnings with a private equity company.

I'd LOVE to see Congress request a full audit on Spotify's USA affiliates and WRITE A LAW protecting and requiring FAIR pay and full equal rights to that of a person who would make physical commodities. Music is a real thing that real people, (mostly,) make through a process of acquiring "materials," modifying them, assembling them, and creating something, where there was nothing previously. So, when they say "on track to pay out record amounts" they don't include the fact that the only record they're breaking is the one which they have set as a streaming service. Which pales in comparison to what radio and television and physical album sales before streaming _ paid to artists back in the day and is only representative of a game which they basically created. One which didn't actually charge enough to fairly compensate musicians who are featured on their platform and where the vast majority of what money is made goes to biggest of the biggest labels and their rosters of stars. It's some bullshit up in here...

Songwriting and publishing royalties are the only place they have leverage, the government has set what they can and can’t do and have made these rules that Spotify is finding every single loophole it possibly can skirt to pay out money. They don’t have this leverage on the artist/master owner side. A master owner can simply pull their music where writers and publishers cannot. Just for the record, what artist get paid and what songwriters get paid or two completely different issues. All of these attacks are happening towards the songwriter publisher, except for the 1000 play threshold.
