Spotlight: Abandoned Rolling Wheels Raceway Park

The site of the fastest ever recorded World of Outlaws Sprintcar lap, Rolling Wheels Raceway Park is a 5/8th mile dirt track located in Elbridge, New York. The track last hosted the World of Outlaws in 2015, but in the following years dialed back it's schedule significantly. The track hosted races in 2017 and planned to run as shows on a weekly basis in 2018. Sadly, these plans did not come to fruition and the track has fallen into abandonment and disrepair. Citing the saturation of excellent facilities in New York State along with the costs inherent with "large track" racing, the tracks promoters decided that it was no longer viable to host racing at the venue. ListonMedia was lucky enough to stumble upon the derelict venue on the venue unlocked and easily accessible and took the opportunity to capture some footage of a track that will have it's name stamped in the record books for years to come. Surely, if you listen closely you can still hear the sounds of 900+hp sprintcars roaring around the track at over 145mph.

Perfect place for super dirt week! Not oswego! Seen many a great race there. Always rooted for Bob Mccreadie. So so sad to see it this way!

Can’t due to how much space u need for dirt week Oswego is perfect for all the vendors, camping, parking, pits, outlet stores ETC just sucks

I used to go here all the time in the early 90’s as a kid. Saw some great races here. It’s tragic that it’s now left to rot. Totally mismanaged. It breaks my heart. They should’ve moved super dirt week there and built some stands on the backstretch to add capacity. Too bad it’s come to this 🥲

The promoters also had no idea what they were doing and tried to schedule events directly opposite other local tracks. Made a lot of people angry. Supposedly then they brought in Glen Donnelly but the money ran out or something. I guess you can buy the property if the price is right. Ideally you'd bring this track back for special events working directly with or hiring Weedsport promoter Jimmy Phelps to run things outright. But if it sits much longer it's going to require a big investment to bring it back to anything people will want to go to.

The money that was dumped into Weedsport could have been done here for better racing. It would have pulled cars from Brewerton and Fulton on a weekly basis. It's a shame that it sits there and is falling apart. The right investor would bring it back to life and bring back both outlaw series. It wouldn't ever be able to host SDW because the property isn't big enough but it sure as hell would pull in a lot of money on a weekly racing schedule. The real bottom line is nobody wants to step on John Wight's toes.

The record would be real if Rolling Wheels was an actual 5/8 track. It's actually much closer to a 1/2 mile if measured correctly. But it is very sad that Rolling Wheels has been abandon by a person who just wanted a tax right off. The track is for sale right now.
