That was good guys. Brooklyn Ladder Companies are interesting to another retired, big city Truck Man.

As a retired UK firefighter I have an interest in Fire Departments/Brigades around the world, so I’m enjoying these little nuggets of info about FDNY. I like the casual style of presentation. Reminds me of the banter we had on our station, I think you yanks call it ‘ball breaking’, Keep doing it guys.

I work in a neighboring Battalion and I have the privilege of working with E290 and L103 very often. They really are great at what they do.

My maternal grandfather was a lieutenant in Engine 62, he became a captain in Tiller 39, and then he became a battalion chief in the 27 Battalion, when he was a probe he was in Engine 91 then he went to Ladder 56 then Ladder 36 before he became a lieutenant with Engine 62, then a captain with Ladder 39, then a battalion chief in the 27th Battalion.

Great channel, looking forward to more. Could we get an inside tour of the quarters.

There's several fire houses in Houston Fire Department that average 20-25 runs a shift. Once they arrive for tour duty you may not see these apparatus back in quarters until next shift change which is 24 hours. They are extremely busy!

Wow, 20 calls a day is a tonne for a single engine or truck. I would be surprised to ever see the trucks back in bay with that volume. Even our quickest calls are at least 30 mins from pulling out and back in so they are really moving. Impressive!

When Ladder 103 first was Ladder 3 of the Brooklyn Fire Department at the time they were quartered at 263 Gold Street as I just did some research on their original address before they moved to 183 Concord Street in 1874, when Ladder 3 first started it was the same year the MLB was organized which would be in 1869 this is why in 1969 Ladder 103 and the MLB both celebrated 100 years of service in 1969 and 1969 was also the same year Louis Armstrong first landed on the moon. But anyway from 1874 to 1932 Ladder 3 which then became Ladder 53 lived at 183 Concord Street and then became Ladder 103 the day they moved to 480 Sheffield Avenue in 1932. Now me as not just a railfan but also a fire buff I’ve been going to a lot of old firehouses of disbanded and still in service units of the FDNY such as Engine 13’s old quarters, Ladder 13’s old quarters, Engine 30’s old quarters on Spring Street, Engine 31’s old quarters, all of Rescue 2’s old quarters, all of Rescue 3’s old quarters including when they lived with Engine 93 Ladder 45 and the 13th Battalion from 1968-1991 on West 181st Street in Washington Heights Manhattan, as well as 451-453 East 176th Street which also quartered Engine 46 and Ladder 27, Engine 2’s old quarters which currently serves Rescue 1 after Engine 2 was disbanded, Rescue 1’s temporary quarters while their quarters was being rebuilt in 1985 after a catastrophic building collapse that almost leveled the whole firehouse but completely destroyed it which the time Rescue 1 waited to return to 530 West 43rd Street they were still quartered in Hell’s Kitchen but on West 38th Street with Engine 34 and Ladder 21 until further notice that they can move back in, I’ve also been to Engine 58’s old quarters, Engine 48’s old quarters, and further more
The way they make buildings today you really have to respect the old architecture
