Hey Dancers and Dance Fans!
I made this video and, as soon as I watched it, I saw a million things that need improving!! Hahaha - it never ends, does it!
If you can take the information from this video and put it to good use, I am so happy! Remember, this is another approach to dancing that I have learned from one of my coaches, and I am sharing my opinions/experience with you. I am not an accredited ballet teacher, so please, be sure to take what works for you and leave the rest behind.
If this tip does not work for you, find one that DOES - and always check with your own teacher and/or coach. If they are worth their salt, they will have excellent advice tailor-made to your own body's particular needs. I have worked with many teachers and have learned something good from each and every one of them.
No one teacher is completely right about everything, in my opinion, but there are definitely some that are better than others. Make sure you seek out the very best for your training! Okay, enough soap-boxing.
My biggest challenge in turns is allowing the turn to happen using minimal force. Since I had never been very good at spotting, I used more force to get around. Now that I have learned this tip for spotting, I am slowly learning how to lessen the amount of force I use in pirouettes and let the spot gently bring me around while I hold my body in a good position (I'm still working on the "good position" part - it requires stronger rotation muscles and better alignment AND overall lift in my torso and upper body... you see? Never-ending.)
SO: I hope this video helps! If you like what you see, and it works for you, shoot me a comment or make a quick video and tag me - I'd love to see your progress!

“spotting helps you not get dizzy” all dancers know that’s not always true.

There're more requirement than only spotting for helping your better pirrouette. Strong core, ankles, legs, focus, good preparation, arm position, pull spine up, high passe, neck position, keeping turn out, etc. Very complicated 😆

hey, it's so lovely to see someone who is willing to video a work in progress, it's really inspiring! My favourite strategy is to imagine the shoulder line leading the turn but I will definitely add your spotting exercise to my routine. Thanks!

Great video! I always get that fear when I'm about to do a pirouette, even on flat. Pirouettes are not my friend! lol. So glad to see I'm not the only one who struggles :)

Thank you for this! I always struggled with spotting and I never seemed to get better with it. This exercise is probably exactly what I should have been doing!

Thank you SO MUCH! I'm in a beginning jazz class in college. I have always wanted to dance, and finally worked up the courage, but spotting and knowing when to open and close my arms has made me feel so discouraged. Your video finally helped me understand! You made it so simple. Thank you so much.

Why do I get dizzy even though I spotted in my turns, plus I never go in a straight line. Any advice or tips?
@LexCATL
@LexCATL 6 жыл бұрын
definitely helped! so do you just practice by counting how many turns you can do before becoming dizzy, then slowly increase that number by the week or however long? I'm trying to condition myself not to get dizzy when turning.
@BallerinaBadass
@BallerinaBadass 6 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried that, but it sounds like a great idea! I usually see how many counts of music I can turn to before getting dizzy, but I think your suggestion of counting the turns could be really cool.

Thank you! I'm up to 20 turns this week (10 in each direction) haha. I definitely need to practice with music as well.
