This time on SPPTV we show you how Rob and Clayton put together a custom front disc brake upgrade for Rob's Turbo 5.3 project truck, for ONLY $200 Canadian! This setup will greatly improve braking performance, and was tremendously cheaper than buying an aftermarket big brake upgrade kit! With a combination of Ebay part's, fancy machine shop work, and some RFG fab work, this truck will be able to stop all it's extra horsepower with ease this spring!
The brake hardware being used was originally from a 4th gen Fbody. The brake rotor's are 12", and the calipers dual piston. A sizable upgrade over the S-10 Minitruck's factory front brakes. However making this work is not a bolt on procedure. The S-10 hub must be machined out of the factory brake rotor, and placed inside the Camaro brake rotor to be able to mount to the S-10 suspension. This mod can be done with an angle grinder and patience we figure, but we are sure glad Clayton saved us the trouble.
Clayton took care of the necessary machining at his work, resulting in super precise quality pieces. Watch him use all of his knowledge and the fancy machines at his disposal. Meanwhile Rob, an artist with the cut off wheel, does some trimming of the s-10 spindles to make way for the new brake hardware!
The finished product turned out great, and will make this s-10 stop on a dime ;). Rob covers how much everything cost near the end of the video for those interested in a similar swap!
In the next episode we go to the junkyard and find a brake master cylinder to match the new upgraded brakes, and also get the proper brake hose tabs. Subscribe now to be sure to catch it when it goes live!
