Hey DIY friends!
Now the time has come to do something about my ugly bathroom vanity countertop and luckily I have a few options on hand. I chose to try two different kinds of spray paints on my countertop based on other people's attempts I viewed to know which would be best for my half bath.
Prepping your countertop is key before painting, but I also give a tip on using another product beforehand that will possibly keep my countertop looking amazing for the long haul.

Isn't that interesting that the product made for a sink didn't work as well as a product made for a metal appliance... at least not so far... I'm gonna go check your follow up vid. Thanks for posting this. From the Southern California desert, MK 😁🌞🌵

My appliance epoxy came out without flaw. I would suggest waiting for it to dry 24 hours. Then apply another coat over areas you have an issue. This allows the 1st coat to dry enough so when you add a second coat it will not take as long for the 1st coat to cure underneath.

Anytime you have to spray something you should always sand the area then primer it the primer will fill any imperfections and then apply the paint with some distance an not to heavy so you don't get any runs.

What is your opinion about this like any painted surface if you go ahead and sand the surface first going from a course to a somewhat finer grit sanding the complete cleaning alcohol wipe down then application of a primer two or three coats. Preferably a sandable primer and then the application of your coats of paint. Then some clear coat or sealer followed by a fine sanding I think the finish was kind of matted because the surface wasn't smooth during the application I'm just thinking.
@ShanettaDIYLife
@ShanettaDIYLife 4 жыл бұрын
The first sink surface was matte due to the product as I mentioned I contacted the manufacturer due to reading many reviews and everyone received the same results. In my case, some areas were smooth and others were matte. I still purchased the Krylon tub and tile thinking that the people commenting didn't do enough prep, but nope it wasn't the people it was the product itself.

You don’t want to or need to use a top coat. Epoxy paint seals itself. Any top coat WILL yellow pretty quickly. You do need to sand before you apply the epoxy paint. And then clean with acetone before painting. You can re-coat within 12 hours or if not possible, you have to wait a week to re-coat.

Both of my sinks have held up. You will not regret doing it. It will be a lot of fumes in the air, just make sure a window is open and you cover the area around the sink as much as possible.

This happens when the nozzle isn't wiped off. Here is my suggestion.. you can allow the entire area to dry and then sand lightly, wipe dust off, spray the droplet section multiple times (light sprays - while allowing each coat to dry to the touch) to level out that droplet section.
@claytonmoses5686

When it comes to all sprays and roll on paints, it always comes down to how many coats you apply.
@ShanettaDIYLife
@ShanettaDIYLife Жыл бұрын
I half agree because if the products quality is subpar you'll need to apply multiple coats definitely vs if you want to. I've used consumer grade and commercial grade products and multiple coats doesn't always matter if the quality is on point.

T. Myers I already use mine. Finished came out smooth very beautiful but the worst part is a lot of overspray so be careful .i cover the to the top of walls to the floors and everything had overspray . The problem I had there was dust particles that got stuck even that I made sure to dust before but using a big fan to get out the strong smell the fan is what pick up the dust. I would recommend not using the fan but in a bathroom that u can use Not use for a couple of hours then turn on the fan when is semi dry so the dust can stick

Thanks so much! I don't see why not. The trick is prep prep prep. As long as the surface you intend to paint is able to bind with the spray paint you should be fine. I would apply some poly on the surface of your countertops as they will get more alot of use and exposure to different things that could potentially ruin the finish. Hope that helps.
