Sprayed leaf Prints Stack Hack - Inspired by Susan T. Brown And Jibid Neary - THT
I first found Jibid's video on this and was mesmerized by her results.
Then Susan did an "Inspired By Jibid Neary" video and I was equally mesmerized by her results.
So finally, after a long time of wanting to do this, i decided to give it a shot. In my laziness and impatience, I decided to stack the papers together like an eco dye.
I was afraid it wouldn't work at all. I was wrong! I can't wait to make some more batch's with different color combos.
Jibid's and Susan's work inspired me so much! I invite you to check out their channels, (if you haven't already, lol), and discover the wonderful inspiration they bring. Enjoy! :)

HOW MUCH ALUM??? One heaping teaspoon of alum per cup of hot water works perfect for me. Make sure the water is hot so that it dissolves properly. (Alum can be found in the spice section of most grocery stores).😉

Oh. My. Holy. Wow. This is SO AWESOME. I couldn't stop saying wow especially as you unwrapped batch 3. I've been eco dyeing for a while but have never heard of this method. Going to get out my dye sprays now and gather some leaves. Thank you THANK YOU for your generosity and for linking to the other 2 artists. You made my day. With appreciation, Kay

I stack mine too Kory. Lack of space to lay them out individually is the main reason. The kitty litter tray is a good idea. I have been using a foil baking tray but the base is corrugated whereas the litter tray is flat. It would be better. I love these results and am eager to do another batch. Thanks for sharing. xoxo I love Susan's and Jibid's methods too and I have done it those ways as well.

On the first batch the next to last one you showed looks like an eye. I have not done the technique this way. I have only done a boiled book using leaves, pine branches, rusty items and flowers but the background itself always comes out gray or brown. I love doing this. You never know what you are gonna get. But I have found that the green leaves make the water turn gray and the metals also from pot, maybe racks you used. I love them all
@marybirder5663

I was wondering if the type of metal used could effect the outcome, as well. For some reason I think using those disposable, aluminum baking pans sold at dollar stores might have a negative reaction. I don't mean bad for your health, I mean the prints may not turn out as nice.

I stumbled across this video looking for Jibid’s which I wanted to view as a refresher. Thanks for your experimenting with keeping this process contained to a small space. One request though: please do not take leaves from plants in public places unless it is autumn and the leaves are on the ground! If everyone did that, the trees would die! Instead, carefully choose leaves from your own plants in the manner of pruning. In other words, removing what will help the plant to grow better. Or use the “weeds” you pull from the garden. That’s a win-win. “Eco” isn’t Eco if we aren’t thinking about the health of the ecosystem. Thank you 😊

Thank you. Welcome to my channel! Yes, drying them in a low heat oven will work well. My only concern is when I use plastic stencils. Then I force myself to wait the old fashioned way. It’s REALLY HARD! Haha The most important key to this is making sure your elements are suctioned to your papers. Any air pockets will disrupt the printing. Enjoy! ☺️

These are so absolutely stunning!!! OMD they’re gorgeous 😱 Those blues & greens, the browns, pinks & all of them are treasures indeed. I was eco-dying tonight after watching Luise Heinzl’s genius idea of die cutting real leaves & using them in the process. And I was wondering if I could use sprays in the process too. I did try some Brushos on a few pages & also tried die cutting some coloured cardstock. I actually boiled that batch & they’re waiting for me to unwrap in the morning (night here in Australia). And can’t wait to see how they turn out. But looks like I have some sprays & more eco-dying in the morning (if I can stop watching videos & go to sleep lol). Thank you so much for sharing

It appears the thicker, older leaves work best. Maybe the younger, softer, smaller leaves adhere too well? Has anyone else tried this and found the same? Has anyone else tried this and added tweaks and twists to share? Thanks! These are GORGEOUS!!! I want to try this with all different shades of green. I find I have too much brown in my forest journal already. I'm sticking to mostly green and occasional sunlight.

The tutorial was astounding. Thank you for sharing. I have only just seen this and am mad keen to do more interesting paper dying. I love the colours and am looking forward to giving this technique a try. I usually do similar but finish them off in the oven. I'm terribly impatient and could not possibly wait for three weeks for them to be dry enough to use. I suppose if there was a quicker way of drying them you would've told us on your video. Anyway, thank you so much.

Thank you so much. I’m just not sure it’s safe to dry these in the oven. If you live in a dry climate, they can dry faster, (depending on the size of your kit). I find it fun to make it, and busy myself with other projects knowing I have an amazing “present opening session” if I’m patient, lol. You do run the risk of it not working if you open it wet...I know it’s so hard. 😊🌿🌸

Amazing video. Really wow. Actually, I really enjoyed listening to you. I can tell beyond the utube world that you are an amazing person. Hoping that if I ever get past my technical difficulties of technology and do videos that I can support the people I learned from along the way like you. I also so appreciate people who share . Why not!. I’m the type of person that will share everything I know. The second batch when you pulled out that first one with the strong blue it was deja vu of pottery class in high school with blue marble glaze. Glazes had just started coming out with these crystals that exploded into bursts of color when fired. Remember how in the video u said something about going on too much, that’s me right now. I’ve only done boiled eco prints and somebody did something with my pot so when I saw this …. I may be back with more questions of what to do with the racks and drying method but I’ll try the other videos first. Thanks for sharing!

You might want to consider using Rit dye, tie dye,or permanent inks in place of sprays. The sprays just don’t have enough binders to last. Your results will be beautiful, but unfortunately, most of it will wipe right off. Just a heads up for you.

WOW!!! Totally GORGEOUS! They came out perfect. I need to try this method of paper dyeing. Can you do fabric the same way??? I've done leaf printing before, which was beautiful. I rubbed distress ink pads straight onto leaves. And pressed between 2 pieces of paper. Maybe a little spray of water on copy paper first. But no boiling it. I'd like to try it your way next time. Your leaf way sound awesome! I’ll have to try that. These were left to dry after I sprayed. (No boiling). I used water activated Lindys Stamp Gang sprays on these. You can do this on fabric which dye, but not the sprays. They sprays are beautiful, but wear off with time. It’s a bummer thing about them.

These are stunning! Do you think that part of the reason for getting such clear prints is you kept the stack in - tact for 2 - 3 weeks?
@KorysArtCafe
@KorysArtCafe Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes, and it’s really important to have the leaves pressed hard into the paper. If there any gaps, they don’t print well. So it’s absolutely both. Happy printing ☺️

Thank you Gill. No, I made these with lindys sprays, so the process is to make your stack, secure it tightly, and let it dry completely. No simmering for this technique. The key is to walk away for a couple weeks.

Thank you so much Laurie! Alum binds dye to your papers. You can find it in the spice section at the grocery store. I mix 1 teaspoon per cup of hot water. (It must be hot to dissolve the alum).

Getting ready to do some leaf prints today but have to do a different technique, as I don't have alum. I habe various inks and sprays, as well as some acrylic paint. Not sure yet what I will use. I might test a few different things to see what gets the best results.

Sue Thank you. I think the printer paper worked best, believe it or not. But I had problems with it sticking. Plus the mixed media paper always does a beautiful job. Canson mixed media is my go to paper for eco dying because it prints beautifully, and it’s strong enough to hold up through the process. I love watercolor paper, don’t really love the thickness though.

@@KorysArtCafe Thanks for letting me know. I found myself wondering if it would work on something like onion skin, which I know is not as sturdy as what you usually see these prints on, but I love the way it melts into the paper it's collaged to. It would be fab to be able to to that with these gorgeous prints and backgrounds. Of course, you could scan it (or buy a download pack) and print it on onionskin and be able to do that. Thanks again!

sabine thank you. I would do it with RIT dye on fabric. All the sprays are water activated. If you did it that way, you just couldn’t wash the fabric ever. Not sure if it would work.

Just awesome! I have done similar with flower petals and leaves but I ironed them dry or baked them in the oven. Do you think either of those ways would work with sprays? And I agree, alum really makes a difference. Thanks
@KorysArtCafe
@KorysArtCafe Жыл бұрын
For safety reasons, I would iron them, but not bake. The sprays have a lot of metallics in them and I would be afraid to have that around food. I think ironing the papers dry would produce fabulous results! ☺️

Thank you Robin. That’s a great question. I live in Colorado and it’s very dry here. If I were in your situation, I would give it a shot, wear gloves, and keep all kids and pets away when I open it up. The worst that can happen is you’ll have to throw them out. I think it’s worth a try. It really does have to be completely dry for the leaves to print.
