Spraying Off Perennial Ryegrass

Great content! I over seeded my 419 with GCI perennial rye and it was mind blowing! Still going really strong, super dark green and striping like crazy so it’s a little sad knowing it’s about to be sprayed off! Would you still recommend going ahead and spraying it now? Weather is in the 60s-70s out here in Denton TX. This is my first time ever doing this so your channel is definitely moral support in a sense!

Hey Jacob! I’m glad you’re enjoying the content! Yes perennial rye is very mind blowing. The stripes are amazing! I would go ahead and start spraying it off. I’m in Midland with similar climate. It’s probably more personal preference than anything. I like to start spraying it off early so that it’s dead when I go to do my scalp on my Bermuda in early spring. This just helps the transition be smoother back to Bermuda. Totally up to you and won’t hurt either way.

Happy to see that you got well past the snow in Texas :-) Powerful stuff you're using, so it's important to know the exact lawn size! Did you use google maps, or how did you measure your lawn size? Just bought a house not to long ago and am starting my first full season within the next couple of week. I am looking for tips on the best measurement methods.

Thanks! We're glad it's past us as well. Yes it's important to know how many square feet you have regardless of the products you use. You'll save money by not over using products and you'll also yield better results because you're getting the correct amounts applied. Technology is great and all but I prefer a good ole' measuring wheel. I don't mind the math and it assures me that I have the correct square footage calculated. Just break your lawn down into simple shapes and use basic LxW to add it up. Draw yourself a lawn map. It comes in very handy when you only need to target specific areas of the lawn vs the whole thing. You'll know how large the front, or side driveway, or back is. For instance, mine is broken down by putting green, back yard, side strip, front under the tree, and main front. It also serves a good purpose to train your brain how far the distance across your lawn is as well. LCN says all the time to "know your land" and this is exactly that.

How long does it take to die? I just sprayed my PRG with MSM Turf on Wednesday.

This time of year it takes 3-4 weeks before you start seeing a difference. The UV rays are less intense right now and so photosynthesis is slow. Spray MSM at the correct rates and give it time to do the work and you’ll have good success.

How long does it usually take to see the rye starting to die off? I sprayed mine about a week or 2 ago but I haven’t seen results

This time of year it can take 3-4 weeks before you start seeing results. The UV rays are not that intense and therefore photosynthesis is slow. If sprayed correctly, you just need to let MSM have time to do its work. Depending on the variety, Perennial Rye has excellent color retention making the results even more subtle.
