I haven't experimented with retting or scraping spreading dogbane. The outer bark is the fibres I'm after with this plant. The outer bark is so very thin without retting or scraping- but perhaps someone who has more experience with retting could achieve better results than I do. I really haven't ever needed to process the outer bark beyond just using it as it is removed from the center pith. My favorite natural snare cord materials are spreading dogbane and the edges of large cattail leaves. Both make tough and fine snare cords Thanks for your comments take care

Do you find much difference (as is often the case) in the quality of the cordage improving if you remove some of the outer bark from the fibers? Understanding that a snare doesn’t have to be super pretty (just strong), but have you experimented with retting or scraping dogbane?
