So, you just simply took the top rim and mount rim collar off your shell then sandwiched the head between them again to play? Therefore, no piercing snares and lesser shell volume projection = quieter decibal level...Well done! Using the brain = new-found progressions.

Its a snare head between the 2 rims, so its not really a pad
