There is a movie. Spriggan (1998). Though it's a darker and more serious tone, some people would argue that it's not as faithful (not saying it's bad, just different) to the manga. The movie was what made me want to watch the Netflix series in the first place and honestly, I can kinda see some of the episodes pay homage to the 1998 iteration.

I actually think a really well funded live action series would make more sense.. it could be global like sense8 &money heist.. but with a budget/VFX like foundation.. it'd be a hit tbh.. like someone said young Indiana Jones meets metal gear solid
