He was a great man and I was so sad when he passed away 4 years after I graduated.

Thank you so much for posting this. Henry Robert Ayasse is my grandfather, but passed before any of his grandchildren were born. If you have any other recordings of his conducting or him playing, please reach out to me. I’ve always wanted more connections to him. Thank you again

oh my goodness!!! your Grandfather was SO CRITICALLY IMPORTANT to my development... and... HOW is it possible that Mr. Ayasse passed long enough ago that his Grandchildren didn't know him? Am I that old?!?! :O I don't get father time AT ALL. SO, the reason I have this, is because my Mom used to bring a tape recorder to the concerts. I was a wee lad in 1982, & was likely playing in Mr. Ayasse's Elementary School Band at this gig. I think I uploaded one other concert to my page, where I'm playing in his 'Dixieland' band. "Hello, Dolly" and that kind of stuff. Mr. Ayasse was AMAZING. If I can find anything else, I will certainly post, but it would be limited to whatever cassette tape I stumble across that I was involved in as a youngster...

Stephan Chaggaris Wow, thank you so much for your words. It is a treasure to me every time I get to hear anything about him, especially about the lives he touched. We grandkids always hear that “he would have been such great grandfather material.” It’s truly heartbreaking that we never got to know him, but it is beautiful that he touched the lives of other young people. In a way, you posting this video and sharing these words about him are like him giving something to me more than 30 years after he left this earth. It’s a little bit of a time capsule moment. I’m very grateful, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Rachel if you by any chance read these comments again I still, to this day, use a saying of your grandfather’s. I am now 59 years old so I first heard him say this over 40 years ago. He used to describe an exercise in futility by saying “It’s like pushing a horse up a hill with a rope”. I still use that saying often.

Hi Stephen. I just stumbled upon this. I was lead trumpet in the 1981-82 LHS jazz band and I don't recall this song at all, but it's been a long time. Are you sure this is spring 1982? Regardless, I also have great memories of Mr. Ayasse and appreciate everything he taught me back then.
