I'm not sure, that's my interpretation, but I think it is a metaphor for the good and happy memories of their childhood coming in a 'blow' to her head as she speaks to Moritz. And it's 'blue', because she realizes that in the past they didn't have many problems and concerns as they have today.

When I first heard "Bubbly" she sang it with a certain inflection which made me believe she was black (like I said, not that it matters)... Obviously, Colbie Caillat is NOT Black, but the inflection she sings with has that Soulful Jazzy feel that is common in black people.

Rent isn't new. It started on Broadway in 1996. If you are going to bash musicals at least get your information correct. I'm guessing you haven't even seen Legally Blonde the musical. I saw it on Broadway last summer and it was a lot better then I thought it was going to be (I even had low expectations). I'm pretty sure the people who choose the shows aren't all gay. or assholes.
