Even though some people may think you may lose a bulb, I think that this is the best way to plant different varieties to make sure they are spread evenly. I can't wait to spring to see the show!

1st of all HOW the H*** was I not subscribe to your channel😱 2nd.... THESE BLOOMS!!!!! I cannot wait to see these in spring!!!! the booklet they send is really cool, I imagine its really helpful. I planted princess Irene last year and they get a nice tall stem and they're GORGEOUS!

@@GardenEvolution I hope so too. I used sand when I planted mine and we get quite a bit of rain. I'm sure the gravel will help with the drainage. Thanks for the tip!

Brad, what do you do to keep squirrels from eating your bulbs? I planted a couple hundred last year and I think only 16 came up, but I had a very well fed squirrel. Is that something you deal with in your area?

We have 2 squirrel in our yard and a chipmunk...I didn't do anything to deter them other then to dig deep holes. They generally only dig a couple inches and then give up...you could use chicken wire laid down or some bird net to deter them as well.

I live in NJ too, a town overrun with squirrels because of the aggressive anti-feral cat policies here 🙄. Anyway I keep the squirrels out by using a hot pepper animal repellent the first few days after digging(like the Tomcat brand) and packing down a thick layer of mulch. That's all I do and just make sure not to plant too shallowly.

So many tulips! Will they serve just as annuals (i.e. you'll dig the out by end of spring) or will they perennialize for you? We can't plant tulips with all the squirrels and rabbits here 😅

No they will stay in year after year. Darwin hybrids are generally the best at coming back and naturalizing, some varieties have come back for me in past years. Just let them die back naturally and make sure they have good drainage and you should see some more blooms in the years to come

Crown Imperial do kind of smell like skunks. At least mine do.

I had 20 sitting inside my front porch...as soon as I got home they went right out! It was terrible 🤣 on their own not bad
